I stayed up _waaay_ too late last night reading the [Very vaguely creepy](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30758) thread. More than 500 replies! Good stuff. It’s too late for me to add my story there, so I thought I’d start a new thread. Please share your creepy stories; I know you’ve got 'em.

When I was a kid my family lived in a mobile home community on the outskirts of town. It was surrounded by semi-dense East Texas forest that ran for miles in several directions. I spent quite a bit of time exploring out there and came across some strange things. One day I was charting some new territory and came across my most notable discovery… a 1960s-ish [Volkswagen Transporter!](http://www.motorcities.com/contents/01EPJ150931343.html)

It had been sitting out in the woods for what must have been years. There were no trails leading to the spot, especially any that could accomodate a van. It was laying on its side. As if that wasn’t strange enough, the inside of the van (yes, I actually went inside the thing) was stocked with many of the necessities of life such as a small charcoal grill and even a (broken) TV! Trash was strewn everywhere and all over the ground outside. If someone didn’t live there, they certainly spent a considerable amount of time there.

Close to the van was a hole (about five or six feet deep  ) and a shovel sticking out of a fresh pile of dirt. This must have finally scared me enough to get out hell out of there. I haven’t gone back since then.

Creepy.
