[Personal experience in SDMB debates](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=163126). Badly hijacked. Ongoing argument between **Libertarian** , **iampunha** , **mhendo** _et al_ and the aforementioned **Reverend Mykeru** about whether or not it’s ok to hate people and wish cancer on them. Good guys say no, the clown of the week says yes. But what’s this? The entirety of his argument seems to be that since Pat Robertson was such a hateful person, and wished death on others, it’s fully justified, defensible, even _necessary_ to wish it on him! Virtually every post by **RM** reads as a highlight reel of how to come off as the biggest idiot possible while debating, but one post in particular caught my eye and inspired me to start this thread. **Libertarian** [told](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&postid=2994262#post2994262) **RM** that he was just like Fred Phelps, condemning people he thinks are horrible. **RM** then takes this characterization, and in response – _[compares](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&postid=2994363#post2994363) himself to Pat Robertson!_ The very same Pat Robertson he’s spent the whole thread proving was an irredeemable scumbag! A truly inspired bit of idiocy. ---

On the contrary, **Munch**. Your average grade school student would find **Mykeru** a good introduction to How Not to Debate. A beginning copyeditor would have no trouble at all ficing **Mykeru** ’s broken language into something resembling standard English. A first-year high school student could learn all about how not to write a history paper. Logic students could practice finding holes in arguments. Think of **Mykeru** as an all-purpose punching bag. As long as it doesn’t fall on anyone, it’s very useful. Just remember to wear gloves. No need to hurt your hands punching the ever-hating fuckstains out of it. ---

Sorry to intrude on this Christian Coalition circle-jerk, but… Interesting board. Because I am not particularly sorry that Pat Robertson has cancer, considering the hateful things he has said and the grotesque scamming of the old and the sick he engages in, I am charged with “advocating cancer” in Pat Robertson. Then the other thread becomes an exceptionally tedious exercise after another poster invokes Godwin’s Law. Of course, that get hung around my neck. Refer back to my uncharitable comments about Pat Robertson. Now, a poster starts a thread with no other purpose than ad hominem? Now, I don’t like to make rash accusations, but what the hell, I feel I’ve been accused of being a member of the Christian Coallition and that’s enough to take the gloves off. One day, as far as I can tell, and about, what, 24 posts to being pitted? I’ve not been around here long, but it looks kind of suspicious to me. Hey, I’ve got a minute. I will just repeat my original statements that lead to such villification: I have no sympathy for Pat Robertson. As I said, I’m only sorry he has only one prostate to get cancer. This is not for his religion, or his political views. I doubt the sincerity of either of those convictions takes precedence over right-wing political expediency. What’s more, the practioners of faith healing that engage is “calling out” and “Word of Knowledge” like Popoff and Grant and Robertson have to know that they are engaging in a scam. They have to acquire information on the audience by subterfuge and then act as those they got it by divine power. Robertson did this sort of thing. More recently Robertson has simply “shotgunned” claiming over the airwaves that some ill-defined “lady in Cincinnati” is cured of cancer. However, we can never know how many people thought they were cured by Robertson and then failed to seek or gave up treatment and how this may have lead to death and suffering. However, this sort of occurrence, where people die after taking the “cure” of faith healers is well documented. And then Pat, when he gets cancer doesn’t pray, he doesn’t turn to faith. No, he used the money he scammed off the sick, old and desperate to but the best secular medicine money can buy. I have no sympathy. None. I will save it for someone deserving empathy rather than for an ignorant yet cunning human predator. ---
