> Yeah, I always thought that Aragorn lopping off the head of the Mouth of Sauron during a parley - loathsome and malicious as the Mouth was - didn’t ring true at all. Not at all in keeping with his royal, Lawful Good character.

Aragorn’s arc seemed to take him from Chaotic Good to Lawful Good over the course of the 3 movies. The killing did seem dickish and OOC to me too however. Note I feel like D & D alignments way oversimplify things if applied to cinematic or literary characters (c.f. Moorcock’s Elric, whose own movie appears to be in Development Hell right now, and OOTS’s Belkar-yes, they’re nominally Chaotic Evil, yes, but).

> Not only will I echo your hatred of the ROTK extended edition, I would like to add that the overly-literal interpretation of the Mouth of Sauron–and Aragorn’s hugely out-of-character murder of same–is even worse than Jackson’s rape of the Dead.

Oh yes, the Path of the Dead with the goofy green ghouls. The idea to actually show it wasn’t so bad but the execution was awful. Then the weepy little Hobbits saying bye to Frodo. But nothing was worse than the bed-hopping Hobbits with the rest of the Fellowship watching and giving each other knowing smiles. Uggggh! I can’t watch it, I tell ya!

Those parts nearly ruined the movie for me and I was genuinely disappointed. Then I felt guilty for being such a loser. :smack:

I guess I’m lucky to have never read the books; I loved Return of the King!
