All that particular crew seem a bit mental in one way or another, really. I think Lloyd, Tom Verlaine and Patti Smith are enormously talented, but I get the impression I wouldn’t have been able to tolerate their particular brand of egomania back in 1970’s New York. Still brilliant though :). ---

Will check it out, thanks. I came to **Marquee Moon** well after the fact. I absolutely love it. I love their Prog-Talking Heads sound. But yeah, you get the impression there’s toys in the attic with that gang. They’re cool toys, but still. The first time I heard Patti Smith take Gloria and open it with “Jesus died for someone’s since but not mine!!” I kinda suspected she had Catholic schoolgirl issues 😉 There’s that whole Rimbaud idolization thing, too. They all emerge from that, and it represents the voice of a young, but incredibly immature and dramatic teen genius seizing the day while loudly rejecting the orthodoxy. I is another. Yes, you can choose who you are. Please do so and move on. Watching smart kids act out their repression issues gets…fatiguing after a while. ---

All that reverb is kind of a deal killer for me, but I always loved what Lloyd and Verlaine had to say with a guitar in their hands, and this song is no exception, so thanks. ---

Do you know how many times I tried to duplicate his and Tom Verlaine’s licks on **Marquee Moon**? Of course you don’t. But the answer is a hell of a lot, and I was never very good at it. Great, imaginative playing from these guys. ---

Here’s a ten year old playing Marquee Moon. And, apparently, playing both Tom’s part and Richard’s part. He starts out a little shaky before the rhythm section comes in, but after that, he is awesome: Richard Lloyd's wife Shelia saw this video and posted it on Richard's Facebook.
