That article appeared only a day or two after this thread appeared. Makes me wonder if Richard Simmons is a SD fan.🆒

This doesn’t pertain to Richard Simmons per se, but I have followed a few healthy living/weight training figures online for a couple of years, and I’ve seen the pattern. They’re like horses… one serious joint injury and they’re gone. We’re fascinated by people losing weight and getting ripped… not so much by squashing an L4/L5 disk, gaining 50 pounds, and losing 30.

I’d love to know what constitutes “bizarre behavior” for Richard Simmons. Was he fully clothed and sedate perhaps?

Well the article said “Simmons was acting in an unusually strange manner”, so some new kind of strange. Tuxedo for breakfast perhaps?

Slumped on the couch while eating cheetos and listening to Metallica?

The official story on this is that he was severely dehydrated. I’ll take their word for it, because this can definitely cause bizarre behavior in elderly women, especially when combined with a urinary tract infection.

I’m glad he’s OK.

There’s stuff floating around Facebook saying that he’s transitioning into a woman. Take that for what it’s worth (very little).

Yes, except “severely dehydrated” isn’t the cause of the problem, it’s a symptom of the problem. People with normal bodily functions drink when thirsty. When musicians have to cancel concerts because of “dehydration” it’s because they’re severely dehydrated after binging on drugs and alcohol.

Many people of all ages are chronically dehydrated and don’t know it. Also, as people get older, their hunger and thirst mechanisms don’t work as well.

I also saw a story that he’s transitioning. If that is true, then I wish him the best. Chaz Bono and Caitlyn Jenner definitely seem to be much happier in their new lives; hope he can be too.

p.s. Ecstasy use can also cause dehydration in itself, because it can raise body temperature and it also blunts the urge to take fluids.

Sorry, but that is BS. Maybe it has been used as an excuse sometimes, but it is a real thing.

I was in DC with a bunch of High School aged Lacrosse players. It was over 100 and there is very little shade. I carried a couple of bottles of water with me, because I wanted to make sure my son remained hydrated. I kind of forgot about myself. At some point I mentioned to one of the boys that I couldn’t focus on him and the next thing I knew I was falling over backward. Only drugs involved were my blood pressure meds… closest thing to alcohol would have been my mouthwash.

There were reports on the news of dozens of people taken to the hospital with severe dehydration or heat stroke. Trust me they weren’t a bunch of wacked out rock stars.

Oh… I never really felt thirsty.

Do you have a cite for this? Most claims about the need to drink more water originate with the [del]selling snow to eskimos[/del] bottled water industry.

It isn’t just you–I get the general drift–and I sweated to the oldies before they were cool again. But Poor Richard (sic); I suspect that he’s hit his limit.

I remember this. It’s called losing homeostasis. One of my grandmas had fun playing with that.

How do transition rumors get started? Is it just that people are finding out about trans people but still don’t get it’s different from gay people? Or is there someone spreading shit? Or what?
