For what it’s worth, the Americans I know are hyper-aware of their country’s shortcomings. Some are even researching which countries they’d move to if the US of A veers any more towards an oligarchy. They’ve read a lot about European, Asian and Latin American politics and have quite the admiration for countries with good economic policies, infrastructures and healthcare. I hear MUCH more criticism of America (at least from liberals) than “Rah, rah, we’re the best at everything!” That seems so immature no matter which country you’re cheerleading for. ---

I think you’ll find how people feel about their country’s flaws is wildly varied depending if they are at home or in some foreign land. Even the most self aware tend to change view when a foreigner in another country points out the flaws. It’s kinda just human nature, I think. ---

Although the stores I check out carried a gazillion cases for _other_ phones (mostly the iPhone series), the offerings for Samsung products were pretty weak. I later learned that Samsung phones are not at all popular in Japan. Nope, not just any one type of folks. My Mexican MiL will tell you that everything was invented in Mexico, all the best food is Mexican, every name originally was Mexican until was appropriated by other cultures, _mumble, mumble_ Mexico. I admit it. I blank out pretty quickly these days. Just know that EVERYTHING comes from Mexico. Even Japan, I’m pretty sure. ---

Mexican Japan is the best! Whenever I get tired of regular Japan, I hit this little bodega that has Japan in glass bottles with real sugar. Besides, _Pancho Villa Hello Kitty_ looks so cool in her serape and mustache… ---

You are not doing your daughter any favors encouraging a relationship with this guy. From what you’re telling us, she’s an accessory, not a daughter. She’s going to be messed up, chasing guys who don’t want her, if this keeps up. Maintain the relationship with Grandma and try to find a more stable male influence for your girl. She deserves better than this sperm donor. ---
