I think post parties are lame…I let my 4000th post go virtually unannounced except for the thread it was posted in.

Anyhow, I think birthday’s are more something to party about, not the quantity of posts we have on the board. I still think the admins need to figure out a way to get rid of the amount of posts you have under our user names and keep them to the profile only.

This will keep everyone on the same level as there are a lot of new posters here that offer a lot more than some of us that have been around a while.

I agree with **techie**.

I’ve never had a post party, I certainly won’t start one for myself, and I’ll hunt down anyone that starts one for me and visit upon them a most grevious violation.

I post to the ocassional one, though not nearly as many as I did a few months ago.

I’m trying to get better, really I am.

Why this obsession with zeroes? I propose something more mathematically significant (and at the same time when people wonder why these numbers deserve a post count, they will learn something. And this site is all about fighting ignorance.) Post parties only when your post count is a [perfect number](http://www.utm.edu/research/primes/glossary/PerfectNumber.html), i.e. you reach one of the following milestones:

```auto
         6
        28
       496
      8128
  33550336
8589869056
my two cents…
```auto

count - you are

  100 I am not just passing thru
 1000 a regular member
 5000 a senior member
10000 handy.

```
That said, I have not had a post party or anniversary, tho I did post I felt “a little devilish” at 666…
</div>
I’m relatively new to the boards, but I think that post-parties for less than 1000 are kind of silly. Besides, a lot of people actually pad their posts, so who cares if you have a really high post count?
That being said, this is **my 100th post**. Ha ha! 🙂
With that, there will be no more mention of it! I promise!!!
(My apologies to Euty… I just noticed it after my last post, and decided this was the best place to mention it!)
The thing about “limiting” post count parties to \>1000 (or whichever arbitrary number) is the people who get excited about their 200 or 100 or even 10 posts aren’t going to know about that restriction, and are going to start their post-party threads in blissful ignorance of their pathetic insignificance.
Pity there’s no FAQ we can email to newbies, isn’t there?
For some people (for example, you), this board is a far cry from real life.
For others it is so much more than an MB. I’ve met some really amazing people on here (people without whom I would have lost substantial chunks of sanity) and I know for a fact I’m not alone. This place technically exists solely on a . . . well, technical plain. But the bonds formed by this board extend far beyond the board itself. This board has been responsible for the following couples meeting:
**Gunslinger** and **racinchikki**
**Montfort** and **Anniz**
**Sealemon** and **Bubble Girl**
**oldscratch** and **Rasa**
**Satan** and **Drain Bead** (though to what extent the actual SDMB was involved I don’t know. I wasn’t here back then)
One couple are now married; two engaged. One has now separated and one have yet to meet.
I do not consider this board to be a waste of my time in any sense. Sure, there are posts I wrote because I was bored. And yes, I was at some points ignoring pressing RL matters. But this board, to be honest with you, matters more to me than a lot of RL committments. That’s what happens when you meet people who are as important to you (if not more so, in some cases) than the people you physically interact with on a daily basis. And I don’t regret any of the time I’ve spent here.
I’m a much more intelligent person now than I was when I came here, and I think the same can be said for a great many people who pay attention and try to learn from other people. Heck, my first GQ thread was “Why are toilets called johns?” and my most recent is about the distance from earth an object would have to be for its angle relative to a viewer on earth to change 30 or more degrees when the viewer moved 210 miles on earth. And I could bring in examples from other people, too.
This place may not be anything more than an MB to some of you. But to many of us it is much, much more.
> [@](#):
>
> Yes, I realise that everyone on these boards is a real person, and real connections are made. But I don’t consider SDMB real, interactive life, or the people here as important as any of my RL friends.
Many of us do.
Now, some of y’all may have noticed that I, with my near 5,000 posts, have never had a PCP. I don’t see the point of them, really. Yup, I’ve posted a whole lot. People like **C K Dexter Haven, zev\_steinhardt, Eutychus55,** and **TUBADIVA** have fewer posts than I do. Does that somehow make their contribution to this MB less? Absolutely not. I’d love to have the intelligence any one of them has in his/her left hand in my entire body. The time I’ve spent here, I think, is a greater measure of contribution. I’ve lasted over a year. I seem to have a few people here who think I’m not such an awful person. Sure, I don’t have the following of a **Fenris** or **Coldfire** , but . . . you know, you stick around here, play by the rules (or at least try hard to do so:-)), try to give back to the board as much as it gives you, and good things happen.
When I registered here on June 6, 2000, it was with the intent of posting a question on how to fix a problem with my Seti@home program. Purely on a whim I perused the rest of MPSIMS and began to read various threads (and I posted that thread in GQ). It is **entirely** by chance that I even got here in the first place (read a thread on "How’s you find Cecil Adams/The Straight Dope and you’ll see serendipity) . . . whodathunk there was a website for some guy named Cecil Adams and his “The Straight Dope” column? I was shocked when I found the site back in 1999.
Just a message board? For some. Not for many.
And sometimes it really, truly shows.
Another vote for 1000 being okay. I say this mainly because 1000 posts finally seems within reach for me (although the thread pruning may slow me down a bit). I tend to post in fits and spurts, so after over two years I’m way behind some of the regulars here. I thought doing it at 100 or 500 was silly, but I was hoping for a party for 1000.
Besides, at the rate I’m going, it may be my only post count party ever. By the time I hit 5000, we may be experiencing the next Ice Age.
Feel free to share. 😃
1,000 parties are justified. Guess I’ll be waiting for a while, though, huh? _sigh_ Oh well. Shit, I was thrilled when I hit 100.
I don’t understand post parties, but I don’t understand a lot of things. For example, why are post parties considered ridiculous while many other things that are brought up in here are even more mindless, yet fully acceptable? Why does a number of posts make someone worthy? I’ve seen some rather intelligent posts in here from people with just a couple hundred posts, and a whole lot of verbal diarrhea from people with a thousand or more… and yes, vice versa. Someone’s happy that they turned 21. Does that mean they should receive less recognition than someone who turned 50? In some cases yes, not all. Same thing. Just my two cents, but if you want to cut down on the server space, bandwidth, etc… post parties are the among the least of the problems in here. Post parties may be mindless, but they are fun for some people. Isn’t that part of the point of this forum? Besides, if a 100 poster isn’t going to have enough friends for the responses to make it worthwhile, how much space will it really take up?
Just some ramblings of a non-worthy, under 1000 poster here who will never have a post party. Flame at will.
It’s terrible that important posters have to put up with post parties and similar ravings from peons who don’t even have four digits yet. I mean, it’s like they think they’re adequate or something. And they just take up space that could be used on necessary stuff, like threads about sex and flirting and turds that won’t flush down. You gotta eliminate this pox on MPSIMS–otherwise the day is gonna come when some triple-digit post party is gonna keep me from reading about what somebody’s feet smell like. Hell yeah.
My Gawd! Say it ain’t so! So now I automatically become a PEON simply because I haven’t been around here as long as some of you? What a pompous presumption. Please tell me you’re not one of those “quantity over quality” freaks. If you want to stereotype, take it to the pit.
Aside from all that, 1000, 2000, 5000, 100,000 - I don’t give a rat’s ass how many posts I ever accumulate, I’ll not be “throwin’ a party”. Just another useless vanity.
And after we’ve eliminated the blight of post parties we’re going to identify those who can’t get sarcasm without having little pictures drawn for them, tie their hands behind their backs, and throw them in the Los Angeles River.
