The most appropriate term I could think of to describe the character. In the books, the character “Wanda” desperately wants to transition from M to F. Towards that end, she dresses the part, certainly, and apparently has for some time. She may or may not be on hormones—I suspect that she is, since all she seems to be waiting for is the final surgery. But it is implied that she doesn’t have enough money for that yet. Wanda is in a kind of limbo, no longer a true male, but not quite yet a female. Being in this limbo is a key plot point in the storyline. I did the best I could at the time. There may be a better term to use, but if there is, I don’t know it. But I’d appreciate learning of a better term, if there is one. ---

The proper term would just be transgender. You don’t need surgery to be transgender. ---

A trans person isn’t less trans because they’re poor, or in an environment where it’s not safe to transition, or simply doesn’t feel they need surgery to confirm their gender, and suggesting that a person in one of those circumstances isn’t “truly” female is highly insulting. You’re also misinterpreting that plot point: Wanda isn’t prevented from traveling the moon bridge with Thessaly, Hazel and Foxglove because she hadn’t had bottom surgery - she’s prevented from traveling because the moon is a terf. ---

He’s probably the nicest person on YouTube; sure, the whole debacle drove engagement and that’s good for the algorithm and whatnot, but you can tell that this incident put a dent in his mental wellbeing, at least for a moment, and that’s horrible. And the typical internet response to that problem will be ‘well, he should just grow a thicker skin; if he wants to be a YouTuber, he should be able to deal with it’, which is just victim-blaming and stupid; not having a ‘thick skin’ is part of the reason he is a lovely, gentle person. ---
