Has anyone seen these films? How do they rate?
I like scarey like the Shining etc… but not utterly pant-browning, paranoia inducing…

I presume you’re referring to the original Japanese ones? I’m guessing you must be, because AFAIK they haven’t done a Hollywood version of Ring 2.
I loved Ring - and it scared the living bejesus out of me. I found it much more frightening than the Shining, because it was so damned _weird_. I’m not going to say any more for fear of spoiling the movie for you. It’s a very good, very unusual, low-budget horror movie (incidentally the US remake is meant to be good too, though I haven’t seen it). Ring 2 was also creepy, but, like most sequels, didn’t quite live up to the first one.
