Dopers know how to bring the funk! To this fine collection, I humbly contribute Billy Preston’s 1971 instrumental “Outa-Space.” [![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/gaJ35thYxAM/maxresdefault.jpg "Outa Space") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaJ35thYxAM) ---

Obviously, you must include the Funky Drummer. Maybe I’ll add that to my ska playlist – I really like the Interrupters. I listened to that album with She’s Kerosene over and over. ---

Great selections. I don’t think I could pick just one, so how about Muhammad Ali dancing on _ **Soul Train** _. Penn Jillette remarked on his podcast one day on the number of musicians George Clinton typically had onstage as part of Parliment / Funkadelic. Apparently it takes about 35 people to “bring the funk”. Here’s a full P-Funk concert from the 70s. I love the horn section, starting around 7 minutes in: [![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/x6vCXEDmO3c/hqdefault.jpg "Parliament Funkadelc Live in Houston, TX 10 07 1977") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6vCXEDmO3c) ---

Well, my enduring favourite would probably be the opener of Mothership Connection, but that’s not exactly revelatory, so here’s one that might be new to at least some people (Though not the sample collectors) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=md9veYbl7wI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=md9veYbl7wI) [Edit: Won’t embed for whatever reason, the song is The Soul Searchers - Ashley’s Roachclip] ---
