> \*Chisholm native David Waite, a New Orleans police officer, was a witness this week to the horrific lawlessness after Hurricane Katrina.

> “Rapes that aren’t being talked about. **Shootings.** Lots of fighting.” And much of it **inside the Louisiana Superdome** , where thousands found shelter after being left homeless by the catastrophic storm and destructive floods that followed, said Kay Waite, David Waite’s mother.\*

Could you be much more of a wanker? You are talking about a FEW rapes, fights, thefts during an extremely unatural situation with a huge concentrated stressed population. You are suprised the crimimal element act in a dodgy way? Pocket knives vs starvation? DOH. The huge majority of the population is afraid and trying to survive. The dodgy element will always be dodgy, just rescue the kids and old people, dodgy they ain’t.

The death toll was horrific and America was seen in a poorer light because all of those left behind (they seemed to all be of the same pigment??? How does that work?). As much as I hate George-Idiot-Bush, I didn’t suspect he was a bigot.

These people are being evacuated to Texas (ohhhhhhhhhh goody gun freedom) but how long can they live in a football stadium?

> That “600 weapons” story appears to come from only a single source. Much more common is verbiage like the following:[here](http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/nation/20050902-0625-katrina-refugees.html)
>
> If the dome admitted 20,000, that’s 1 gun per 667 people, which is _much_ lower than the national average of [0.82 guns per capita.](http://www.guncontrol.ca/Content/Cda-US.htm)\*
> If the 600 weapons confiscated story is true, it seems that a _lot_ of people must have left their guns at home, and opted to carry more lethal weapons such as jacknifes and nail clippers.
>
> \*That number is suspect as I got it from the Coalition pour le contrôle des armes. However, gun ownership in the US is much higher than 1 in 667, so the point stands.

No response _Steph_? I thought not. The last arrow in your quiver has been fired and, as the others, has fallen short of the mark. You claim the crowd was murderous and raping, and when asked for proof provide nothing. You call me a liar, and when asked for a cite provide nothing. You call me a defender of child rapers … You imply I called the policeman a liar … You run about with your fingers up your nose screaming “600 weapons! 600 weapons!” … and when a **much more reliable source** weighs in; i.e. the police chief vs. an unnamed officer, your 600 weapons are down to 30 guns, _voluntarily_ handed in. The rest of the weapons, who knows? If you do, you are not saying, and at a time when it would behoove you to do so.

It is **you** who are the liar. You called me a defender of child rapers. **Prove it bitch!** You called the **crowd** murderous and raping. **Prove it bitch!**

When I think of what these people have gone through it breaks my heart. And when I realize that you are absolutely incapable of empathising with your fellow humans, my disgust for you is overcome by pity.

And by the way, I have put my money where my mouth is. Refugees are coming to my home town. I have donated clothing and bedding, and will offer my home, such as it is, to whomever needs it.

The last word is yours.

> The saying is true: a liberal is just a conservative who hasn’t been mugged yet.

A conservative is a reactionary pussy with a gun, a liberal has a brain.

Or

A conservative is just afraid, afraid of the society they live in and their ability to survive in it.

> Once again, you’re wrong. I said nobody should be _forced_ to take in that kind of group. Do you think anyone should be forced to?

So now your whole argument all along has been that no one should be _forced_ to take in the group of refugees. And where is your cite that anyone has been \* forced\* to do that?

From [USAToday](http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-08-31-astrodome_x.htm)
\*The transfer of 25,000 people to the nation’s fourth-largest city was set in motion shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday when Texas Gov. Rick Perry asked Harris County Judge Robert Eckels, who runs emergency management in the county, to open the little-used Astrodome for hurricane victims.

“We’re all in this together. They are our neighbors. By the grace of God — 350 miles west — and this could have hit Houston,” Perry said.\*

AND:

_“We will do everything we can to welcome these students and return some form of stability to the lives of these youngsters,” Education Commissioner Shirley Neeley said._

And I found the same sort of quote in the [Washington Post](http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/31/AR2005083100724.html) and every other related news story.

Oh wait, from [the New York Times](http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/04/national/nationalspecial/04astro.html) :

_Mayor Bill White and other Houston officials who vowed Friday to throw open the city’s arms to the victims of Hurricane Katrina said that the Astrodome, which pioneered the domed stadium in 1965 but had lost its teams to more modern arenas, could shelter as many as 18,000 storm survivors. But with other emergency centers opening up at the newer Reliant Park next door and the George R. Brown Convention Center downtown, considerably fewer than that bedded down in the Astrodome on Friday night._

Hmm, no, I guess that couldn’t exactly be called _force_…

So is your argument regarding _force_? (With no supporting cite provided and many cites provided showing the opposite)
Or is your argument that the entire crowd at the Superdome was violent and mobdriven? Please find a cite that states the entire crowd was involved in violent behavior.

Tens of thousands of people fled from an unstoppable, natural disaster into one shelter where they likely thought they would be just until the storm passed. Of those tens of thousands of people, there was a small percentage of a criminal element. Hours turned into days and conditions deteriorated rapidly. Crimes were committed by a relative few. Could the situation have been better managed? I think most people would agree that it could have been. Should the tens of thousands of people who have lost everything be punished because it wasn’t? Or wasn’t that your point either? I know, your point is that everyone who ran should have returned home before going to Housyon to drop off their nail files and Swiss Army knives? Oh wait, they have no homes to return to, so that couldn’t be it.

Houston voluntarily opened their city to these folks and took a lesson from what happened at the Superdome to prevent a reoccurence. They had the luxury of time to assess the situation, learn from the mistakes in NO, and implement a more organized, safer and more humane _longer-term_ solution.

So what exactly is your point, **Stephe96**? You’ve changed it so many times I’ve lost track. Or is your only point the one on top of your head which is clearly shoved all the way up your ass. Ouch. No wonder you’re so cranky.
