# RIP Alta Vista?

What the fuck just happened to Alta Vista? The Advanced Search screen is missing in action and I’m getting Yahoo error messages when I try to go to any regular-page search returns!

I have a nasty suspicion Alta Vista has been acquired by Yahoo which in turn may see no reason to retain its lovely boolean search capabilities.

Temporary glitch, mayber? This looks like [Advanced Search](http://www.altavista.com/web/adv) and seems to include Boolean expressions.

Yeah, I’d guess “glitch”, too. The Advanced Search page is loading just fine for me, too.

Although . . . these are things I didn’t know, having not followed the search engine wars: [Overture bought AltaVista](http://news.com.com/2100-1023-984968.html?tag=fd_top) and then [Yahoo bought OVerture](http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,112016,00.asp). So it seems AltaVista is a Yahoo subsidiary at this point.
