I thought the thread title was a joke too. Shocked and speechless. Wherever you are **Autolycus** , will be a much more interesting place now.

I’ve been racking my brain but as far as I can remember he never mentioned any illness here on the dope. ☹
My mind can’t help thinking traffic accident, because an old friend of mine’s wife and kids were all killed in a traffic accident, while he was overseas, earlier this year. ☹

Would you mind PMing me his facebook page link so I can check it out? I think I have the right person but am nervous about it being the wrong one! Being in Japan and also fairly close geographically within the country I am feeling quite connected to this. He was such a nice guy here. I loved his posts and his attitude towards life.

I have never before responded to a condolence thread. I am doing so now not because I knew\*\* Autolycus\*\*s or even interacted with him in any meaningful way on this Board, but because his untimely passing is a reminder to me that everyone whom I encounter, whether in real life or on the net, has an important effect on me.
**Autolycus** was a member of our community. A community that some of us are more involved with, and some of us less. But we’re all a part of it. And it’s real and meaningful for good or for ill. For me, a sad event like this reminds me that I should have a greater appreciation of everyone who is a part of this (virtual, but nonetheless real) place.
I think of **Autolycus** and I consider, and remember, that all of the threads he was a part of have influenced my life. He’s left us, but that’s at the very least reminded me how much everyone’s contributions here enrich me.
Best thoughts to \*\* Autolycus\*\*. Who sadly–unwittingly–has sparked my little mind to better appreciate the faceless, anonymous people here on the SDMB who contribute to my existence and help make me a more fulfilled person.
That’s all of you–no matter how much I’ve agreed or disagreed with your contributions here.
I did not know this man, but I will remember him as a person who exemplified the grandest spirit of internet community–an honest, straightforward, giving soul who, in his virtual interactions, made the web and the world brighter and richer places.

I don’t think we ever engaged (I don’t post a lot), but always looked forward to reading an **Auto** post - the StraightDope community has lost someone special, and I am diminished by that loss. My thoughts and prayer are with his family and friends.

His facebook is starting to get a lot of comments now. It’s not a hoax, guys. ☹
One person said he died in his sleep. That’s the only post about how he died so far. If it’s true, I hope it was painless and quick and that he went peacefully. You can tell he was loved by so many people, he’s one of the Dopers I’d hoped to meet in person someday.

That was a nice little Dopefest. I did have him in my phone for a while after that, but I deleted it after I pocket dialed him one night. He was a very nice young man, you could tell he was a little shy at first but it didn’t take him long to get past that. Such sad news for his family, friends and for us as well.
