RIP Darrell K Royal

What does the home media’s love of their local team have anything to do with sanctions? You think they don’t love TAMU in College Station, Oklahoma in Norman/OKC, OSU in Columbus, Alabama in Tuscaloosa?

Texas had all the cards stacked in its favor in the 80’s, yet still sucked. Don’t you think if they were cheating they’d have done a better job?

  1. True
  2. False. Many does not equal most.
  3. Absolutely false. 5-5-1 is not losing

Moved MPSIMS --> the Game Room.

I just don’t buy it for a minute, that’s all. I don’t have any proof, but it’s hard to swallow that UT could be as big, powerful and rich as they are in the world of college football, and that they’re squeaky clean.

This is about as close as I come to being a conspiracy theorist in anything, but I just have this gut feeling that UT’s football program and boosters, etc.. is way more corrupt and has more crooked political influence than anyone really imagines, except for other schools that dominate their states (i.e. Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, etc…).

Mack Brown plans to run the first offensive play in Saturday’s game from the wishbone formation.
Also, I thought I would share some of my favorite Royal quotes, many which have been misattributed to others over the years.

You’re right. There is no way that the Horns could reach such stunning levels of mediocrity now and in the eighties with just their incredibly large alumni base, being the state flagship school in the second most populous state, and being the highest profile school in the middle of perhaps the most fertile area for high school football recruiting. They must be cheating. It’s amazing that despite being probably one of the most hated college teams in American, that no one has ever been able to hang a major scandal on them.

My parents told me Royal stated a “n…” would never wear a Longhorn uniform, guess statements like those were a sign of the times…and then capitalism took over !

Just to get this back on a RIP track, one of the athletes who knew Coach Royal best, Earl Campbell, reserved any public comments until after he had spoken with his widow. Of Royal himself, Campbell said that his coach was who taught him how to be a man. Whatever faults he may have had, many that knew Darryll Royal best, no matter their race, had a great deal of respect for the man.
