Bandstand was a big part of my early teenage years. I still watch Pyramid on GSN weekly. Dick Clark made me laugh with _TV’s Bloopers & Practical Jokes_. Such a versatile producer and tv host. I’ll miss him. ---

Back in '92 or '93, I had a job delivering pizza. One day I took an order to the top floor of the Fairmont, where the rooms are like a million dollars a night. When I got off the elevator, there was this older couple waiting to get on. I made eye contact with the man for a split second, then he immediately stared hard at the ground as he and the woman got on the elevator. As I walked past him, a thought flashed through my mind: “I know this person, or I know who he is.” The wheels started churning furiously in my head, then the light bulb dinged on. I turned around to say “hey, you’re Dick Clark!!”, just as the elevator doors boomed shut. RIP Dick. ---

All through the 70s and 80s, I remember his many TV appearances with Match Game, his hosting the $25,000 Pyramid, his blooper show with Ed McMahon, and his short lived show with Danny Bonaduce and Mario Lopez, The Better Half, which was intended as an antidote to The View.
