Geez, I just posted about Wally ‘Famous’ Amos dying. Then I come upon this. [Gena Rowlands, acclaimed American actress and ‘The Notebook’ star, dies at 94](https://www.reuters.com/world/us/actress-gena-rowlands-dead-94-entertainment-weekly-reports-2024-08-15/) She’s been in movies most people have seen, but I haven’t. I remember her from Jim Jarmusch’s _Night On Earth_, and from an episode of _NCIS_. ---

Very sad. I still remember her in “Gloria” and “Night on Earth” (which I think I am the only person to have ever seen it…obviously not true yet I have never met someone who has a clue of what I am talking about when I mention that movie). ---

A great talent. I find many of John Cassavetes’ films…a little unsettling. In a good way, but also in a ‘I don’t want to watch that again for a good long while’ sort of way. A Woman Under the Influence certainly qualifies in that category. But Rowlands was always fantastic. RIP. ---

I’m very respectful of her passiing. She had a long life and was nothing less than a legend. I don’t know about _The Notebook_ or any of that, but _Woman/Influence_ and _Opening Night_ alone puts her at the top of any shelf. ---

We just saw an episode of _Dr. Kildare_ a bit ago where she was the lead guest star. (A pop novelist who, of course, had a medical issue.) I think the last movie I saw her in was _The Notebook_ and then perhaps a later episode of _Monk_. And a bunch of stellar stuff inbetween. ---

I recognize the name but don’t know if I’ve ever seen her in anything and not sure I’d recognize her if I did. I guess I need to go find some of her movies to watch this weekend. (Didn’t Raj on Big Bang Theory once refer to her as a “national treasure”?) ---

I remember her from _Tempest_ and _Night on Earth_. According to her Wiki page, she did more TV than movies. ---

I looked her up because I didn’t recognize her name, saw her picture, and said, “Oh, HER.” I think I mostly remember her for her later guest spots on TV shows I’ve watched (like _Numb3rs_ and _Monk_). I’m also **aware** of the film _Gloria_, but never saw it. RIP ---

Her mother lived across the street from my parents in L.A. The night of the '94 earthquake she came over and brought snacks for all the neighbors (IIRC they were brownies). ---

In 2011 she was in an indy movie called “Olive,” which is supposed to be the first full-length film shot on a smart phone. Some of it was shot in my home town of El Cerrito, CA. I didn’t meet her, or even see any of the filming. She voiced the role of Grandmother in the English language version of the animated movie Persepolis. It’s an excellent film, though I prefer to see it subtitled. ---

Gina played Gibbs’ mother-in-law in an episode of _NCIS_. Great job and her actual age wasn’t apparent. I wish they would have brought her back. Gina was also in an episode of _Monk_ (the last season). I looked through her movies on imdb. _Gloria_ and a _Columbo_ are the only ones I’ve seen. She was always exceptional in her roles. RIP
