I’m tired, drained emotionally and physically so I’ll fill this in more in the morning. Marty was 15, our oldest. The calmest, mellow-ist, most people friendly cat you ever saw… Even now, just writing this, I know I’m not ready to be doing this. I’m too lazy now to pick good pictures, so I’ll link to the whole damn cat album. Morning is the hardest time. As soon as the alarm would go off, he’d jump on the bed, if he wasn’t in his spot next to the TV. Whenever he jumped he talked, just a short little warning that he was there. Then he’d stand next to your head, purr and bump into whatever looked like it might pet him. **The Kid** was in 4th (I think?) grade, we wanted to award her for getting good grades. We were going to get a goldfish. We ended up with him. So we called him our goldfish cat. At the time, the other two cats we had were Erica, who we put to sleep about 3 1/2 years ago (there’s a thread here somewhere), and **Ernie** , The greatest cat ever. **Marty** had this odd kitten-habit of attacking from around corners or from under things. So his nickname became Boo. Since we got him when we had our first two, we realized lately that he’d known every cat we’ve ever had in our family. He watched four of his friends die, and broke in four new kittens, showing incredible patience along the way. Daughter is feeling especially bad, he was “her” cat, and she somehow feels guilty because she didn’t spend enough time with him lately, which is nonsense. He always knew where she was in the house, and stuck his face in hers all the time, because she absolutely doted on him. Right now, **Evil Fat Scarlett** seems unconcerned, but she’s the T-Rex of the house, and really had little interaction with him. Hell, unless she’s being chased or harassed, she ignores all the others. **Bear** , the new kid was acting odd upstairs, which was the big guy’s domain lately. Instead of hopping on the bed to be rubbed and scratched, he wandered around the room for a little, squeaking. **Cuervo** is hard to read right now. He’ll be the first though, because during the day, they sleep together on the sunny spot on the bed. In the afternoon, when they gather for their cans of food, he’ll be missed. At least he went fast. The whole thing took all of five seconds. One minute he was healthy and even rolling around so someone could do some belly worship, the next he was lying there. In the thread title, I said he never did bad things. He didn’t once he got past the kitten stage. Never knocked things down just watch, never stalked or smacked another cat unless they hit first, although he was a formidable fighter - none of that. He just lived his life, purred at the proper times, and liked the sun. Thanks everyone for the good thoughts. ---

Aw. I’m sorry to hear that. Marty looks a lot like my cat (and it sounds like their personalities are similar too) so it kind of hits home for me. It sounds like you had a lot of good years and good memories with him though. ---

Heartbreaking. We had to put down 2 of our elderly animals in the last 2 years. Our absolutely beloved Rottie Amos and our bitch on wheels cat who was the absolute love of my husband’s life, Pebbles. I loved her too, but they were a team and just in love. A heartbreaking time in our household, and I sympathize with you greatly. I wish you strength and please know that in time you’ll be able to reflect on fun/happy things that Marty did without bursting into tears. It just takes a long time sometimes. ---
