RIP Sir Alec: Best Guinness Movies

First Walter Matthau, and now Sir Alec Guinness. Which other of my favorite actors will this year take away?

Best film with Sir Alec: Bridge on the River Kwai.

Best single role: Fagin in Oliver Twist. He was only a youngster, and managed to act and look sixty years old. He defined Fagin on the screen. Everyone else who has acted in the role since then sounds like they are just impersonating him.

My sentimental favorite: The Horse’s Mouth. Didn’t he write the screenplay for this movie, as well?

Rest in peace, Sir Alec. Thanks for your brilliance.

Not sure If its a true or not, but supposedly Obi-Wan being killed in Star Wars was actually Guinness’ idea. The story goes that he was so annoyed with the inane and formulaic dialogue his chacter constantly said, that he went to Lucas to convince him that Obi Wan should die, in order to make the story that much more dramatic when he came back as a ghost, but in reality it was just to try to make his part in the sequel as quick and painless as possible by reducing screentime to a minimum.

P.S. I dare anybody to diagram that sentence.
