There must be Tory MPs asking themselves why couldn’t he do it the normal way: ask all the questions, buttonhole all the ministers and share all the info you’re asked for, and then resign to take up a 4-day a year Non-executive Director position while being paid for keynote speeches in a variety of beach-adjacent 5-star conference resorts? ---

What I meant was that, _within the circle of politicians’ attitudes towards themself personally and the other politicians_, graft and corruption is normal and acceptable. What is _not_ acceptable (within that circle) is to advertise that fact loudly enough that the general public notices. Benton broke the latter unwritten rule and so the others are coming down on him. Others who are often as guilty or more guilty of the same graft and corruption as Benton. But not guilty of the same advertising about it. You are of course 100% correct that legally and morally, 100% of graft and corruption is illegal and should be detected and prosecuted to the maximum extent provided in law. As said by someone on twitter: "Liz Truss was carried into office by the best-selling newspapers, the biggest think-tanks, the richest donors & the dominant party of her day. She wasn’t some lone warrior against the forces of “the establishment”. She was their champion" And these same papers are advertising her attempt to cash it in in the US. However, it doesn’t seem to be a thing, Toadboy (Fartrage) failed to cash in, hilariously, Tiny Tommy Ten Names (Tommy Robinson/Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) failed to cash in mainly because he used a false passport to enter the US before, and has no chance of getting in now, never mind riling up the nazis. Has any Brit managed to make well on the right wing loon circuit? Not sure of our own Bumblefart (Johnson). ---

Yeah, but he was a real tv personality before that, appearing on Americas got Talent (apparently, I’d never know) and having a show on CNN. Technically a “journalist” (though I’d say most real journalists would disagree with that), I’d not put him on the same page as Toadboy or PorkThatcher. ---

30p Lee (Anderson) was actually the deputy leader of the Conservative Party, up until he resigned in that Rwanda vote nonsense last month (yet another exaggerated “they’ll going to rebel” drama which happens regularly). So he is a big scalp to be thrown out. The 30p Lee nickname came from some sort of claim that he made that you could live of 30p a day with full home cooked meals. I do find it bizarre that this horrible troll of recent times was a labour MP until 2018, some people really do just transform into monsters at a certain age (I know a few people which went that way from my personal life). ---

Indeed. Sometimes it’s people who are brought up in the Labour tribe but identify more with the socially conservative elements of “traditional working class values” (like Anderson - and a fair few predecessors?), sometimes it’s Trotskyites who somehow retain nothing else of it than their radical dogmatism as they wrap it up in various varieties of neocon - there are examples on both sides of the Atlantic. ---
