Risk Analyzed. No, the game.

Does anyone in here play as a nomadic warrior race is Risk (my favorite strategy)?

Simply put, you forego trying to win continents, and instead put all your starting armies in one country. Each turn you either sit where you are or invade a nearby lightly defended country for a card. When you risk, all armies go into your sole country. Generally speaking, this makes enemies around your border want to go around you rather than through you, so you rarely are attacked.

This strategy works best in a game with high turnin growth, and at least 3 other aggressive players. In a 6 player game, it essentially guarantees you the win, as your enemies are too busy trying to keep others from destroying them to hope to tackle you.

Of course, against smart opponents you probably won’t be able to pull this off more than once. But that one time will be worth it.

InquisitiveIdiot: Yes, I’ve used that strategy when I don’t have any prospects for a continent and have a key territory such as Iceland or the Ukraine. I have several friends who use the same strategy, and I have seen people win games with it.

I also agree with Earl of CC that, even if you control a continent, you should have some forces elsewhere, IMO, as far as away from your continent as possible. I remember one game I won simply because I controlled Australia and southeast Asia, one or two territories in North America and Madagascar. The other players let me stay in the game simply because no one could take me out of all three spots, and I later smoked their asses.

The sea ports in LOTR Risk can also wreak havoc trying to defend a region.
