Risk (the board game) strategies/hints/tricks/tips.

dump everything into australia and claim it for your own during the beginning army allocation, then use it to fund your expedition elsewhere on the globe. it has only one entrance distanced from everyone else so it’s easy to defend on a low budget.

The problem with Australia is, as somebody else said, whoever owns Thailand’s going to be dumping armies in there just for spite. It’s too easy to get bottled up in Australia and the armies aren’t that great for the defensive costs.

i’d always thought what i did was common - occupy australia with the largest army in the world sitting on thailand, practically spilling over into china and india.

(provided you’re not playing the 12 army limit rule of course)

Mission cards are not in the version of the game I have. Of course, I’ve had this copy for a few years (ahem, decades). In my son’s LOTR version, there’s something like mission cards, but completing the “mission” doesn’t win the game, it just gets you some extra armies. So I asked local experts (my son and his friends). The edition with the mission cards is a more recent revision, but they couldn’t tell me more than that.

Sounds interesting, though.
