I was thinking the same thing about your post. This thread is about some stupid kid bringing a hazardous timing device to school. Some people prefer the namecalling. It’s the Pit. The kid was going to get suspended. He had blatantly violated school rules. He wanted to draw attention to himself and the LSM played along. The teacher and principle seem to have followed school safety protocol. They didn’t do anything wrong. The kid screwed up. Repeatedly. Hooray! Let’s invite him to the WH. ---

I just left it lower case in the first sentence of this post, even though I think it looks dumb. But the last sentence of your first paragraph, that ends in “not so much”? That’s just wrong. The first word of a sentence needs to be capitalized, no matter what it is. (If you really want to avoid capitalizing a word like this one, then fall back on the classic style guide advice and “rework the sentence” so that you move the word away from pole position.) As you say: Standards. Please. ---
