I once read almonds are a good way to boost HDL(good) cholesterol while lowering LDL(bad) cholesterol. Since I have high cholesterol I have made them a daily snack. Needless to say this story totally freaked me out. I have had several munchies session where I practically down a big bag. Luckily I am hear today to talk about it.

I will make the switch to the roasted variety and limit my binges. But the big question is, will roasting take away the Cholesterol benefit?

People often remark to me that cyanide has the smell of bitter almonds, to which I reply, “No, bitter almonds have the smell of cyanide.”

Get a sniff of CN some day and you’ll see what I mean. Kids: don’t try this at home.

Take a course in entomology and your killing jar will make sure you have the experience.

Welcome to the Straight Dope Message Board, **art** , glad to have you here.

And, **hilltopper** , ditto. For future ref, it’s helpful to others if you provide a link to the column that you are commenting on. Keeps us all on the same page, avoids repetition, etc. **Ice Wolf** has kindly given you an assist there.
