Rocketeer finishes a bison model

I’m so glad you’ve moved to Flickr; thanks!

I love this model. Have you let Disney know about your designs for a Bison AT-AT? Surely there’s a Star Wars movie in the works that could use it!

“Ah, a new Rocketeer model” I say to myself, then see it’s not so new but that’s OK, I missed it the first time around.

Can I just say, I’m awed as always by the amount of detail you pack into these things. In awe!

Having said that, I do have one slight criticism of this particular model, and that’s that I think it looks too shiny and clean. I think I’d have preferred a bit of weathering on the shiny metal rump, given the setting and all. But that’s me - given my druthers, I’d put a thinned umber acrylic wash on anything.

I missed this the first time around, too. I think that, instead of the cowboy, I’d have put it in the midst of a herd of ordinary bison. It’s probably really easy to find off-the-shelf HO-scale bison (enough of them that you wouldn’t have obvious repeats among a herd).

Wow! I never knew jackalopes were that big, or that they could jump so high!

What’s the mushy stuff between the toes of an Edison Bison?

Ordinary bison. :stuck_out_tongue:

Very Cool!! this is first I have herd (ha) of these!! Good work, I love the interior work.

Holy cow, that is amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for all your kind comments, guys!

It does have some weathering on the feet.

You could seriously make a living doing this - incredible!

No, no, different species. Though some of the plains tribes did consider them sacred.

Missed this the first time around too, it’s utterly amazing. Though I clicked on the photobucket links in the OP, and they work now. I really wish we were living in the present that had the Edison Giant Steam Bison in its past.

I’m guessing that Photobucket realized that throwing away their reason for existence was no way to turn a profit, and so dialed it back to where it’s usable again. I still wouldn’t use them, because who knows what they’ll do next, but for the moment, it appears to work.

It’s extremely cool! (Also couldn’t get photobucket to perform!, thanks for the Flickr!)

And very weird. I love it! Great job!

Whatever you do, don’t stop. Do you ever show this art in galleries? I’m pretty sure some would very much enjoy having this beauty in their collection!

When I click on one of the old Photobucket links, I get a page on which half the (rather small) picture is obscured by a “31 hilarious cat pictures” style banner, and which immediately spawns a popover. To heck with that stuff. :frowning:

Thanks for the kind words. I’ve never displayed in a gallery, but lately I’ve been wondering what’s going to happen to the collection when I’m gone. Ideally I could sell the whole lot to some rich person who would display them in nice glass cases.

Get professional photos of your favourite three, and try sending them to a few galleries.

You could be very surprised. They’re really delightful. Galleries always want new things that draw people in. They all want to attract new and different people. I think you could do very well.

Good Luck!
