That totally fucking rocks!

TRIVIA QUESTION:**
At a constant acceleration of 1g, how long will it take the ship to reach the speed of light relative to its point of departure?
ANSWER:
Very close to one Earth year. My Astronomy professor in college actually did the math.
A postscript: I took Aventine to Wonderfest, the big yearly fantasy & sci-fi model show in Louisville. A couple friends and I rented a minivan and drove, which allowed us to bring a whole pile of models to enter.
Aventine turned out to be a bit of a battery hog; all those LEDs used up batteries lickety-split and I had to replace the batteries three times. Despite that, it did very well in the competition. It got a Gold, and won three special awards. (Special awards are sponsored by a person or organization, and they can give them to whoever they please.) Aventine won Best Starship (huuuuuge impressive trophy); Best Example of Something We Like; and Best Scratchbuild. For the next 14 1/2 hours, I was the happiest guy in Louisville, and then I was the happiest guy on I-70 for about a day, and then the happiest guy on I-64, and… :D:D:D
Congratulations! I would say well deserved.
I like the name of the award; “Best Example of Something We Like”
One year I won the “Second to Last” trophy at a kinetic sculpture race.
You’ll like the group’s name, then: COlorado Modeling Militia IntErested in Sci-fi, “COMMIES” for short
Congrats and dare I say, well deserved!
I will be most disappointed if you don’t take all of your trophies, deconstruct them, and use the parts to build one fabulous mega-trophy.
Congratulations, Rocketeer! Well done!
ETA: I don’t know how many models you build each year (not too many if they all take 3-4 months), but I wouldn’t mind if there was a Great On-Going Model thread for you and anyone else to post in. Your work is amazing; I’d love to continue to see projects that you and others worked on. Anyone else think such a thread is a good idea?
I wish I could see the photos, but the site wants my ad blocker turned off.
Not gonna happen.
Dammed shame.
Thanks to you all for the kind words!
Heh heh
Yeah, Photobucket has turned into Pop-up Central these days. Maybe it’s time to investigate other photo-hosting sites, preferably free.
Yeah, it reminds me of John Campbell’s definition of science fiction: “Science fiction is that which is published by science fiction editors”.
Nice job, Rocketeer!
As a young man, I bought a tabletop miniatures game called “Sky Galleons of Mars”, from GDW’s Space 1889 line of stuff. I am still enchanted by that kind of Jules Verne, steam-punk kind of setting!
Very cool - well done! You may be interested to know there’s a non-Star Trek canon starship, the USS Aventine: USS Aventine | Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki | Fandom
Here’s an album of Aventine photos on Flickr.
It’s still gorgeous.
Very Russ Manning-ish!
Aye; this is still my favorite of all of your models I’ve seen, Rocketeer. The detail work is just incredible and the you really nailed the overall “look”.
Thanks, guys!
Thank Goodness for Flickr!
Damn, son, that’s incredible!
