Roger Ebert on the Inherent Worth of Video Games

Damn man, if I was the type of person to cry I’d be balling like a baby at the end. I wonder how many people turned it off after the credits rolled and the pics stopped? Of all the video games I’ve played I think this one would make the most interesting movie.

Allow me to point again to Planescape: Torment, the Greatest Game Ever, as an example of game as art. Planescape does connect you to the plight of the hero, and your allies, and even the NPCs that, in lesser games, would be simple quest-item-givers. It does this by having more total text to be read than some books, but even so, the gameplay is intrinsic to the experience.
