Yeah this roils me. What detestable fool Waters is. Sponsored by Russia to speak. I am sure the asshole is proud of himself. What a fucking tool. I listened to a lot of Floyd in the past and enjoyed it, despite Water’s grating voice. Everytime I hear Pink Floyd now, I’ll be think of this asshole’s behaviour. I wondered how much support is necessary for somone to speak on the council. Did come across this quote in a Reuters article from the Albanian ambassador on the council: “He is lucky to be in New York, in a free country, speak his mind, say whatever he likes, including about the Russian aggression and how wrong that is. If he had been in Russia, with what he said, he might have been in custody by now,” Albania’s U.N. Ambassador Ferit Hoxha told the 15-member Security Council. Once again, just need to add: Roger Waters is a disgusting piece of shit. Fuck him. ---

Near as I can tell, Waters’ trajectory was: My dad died in the war → The UK government sent my dad to war → The UK government is bad → The UK and allied western governments are bad → Those opposed to the western governments must have a pretty good point For all that people assumed Waters was “anti-war”, most of his complaints were about Reagan, Thatcher, Bush Sr, etc. None of which have ever been on my Christmas card list but nevertheless strike me as better than the various Russian, Asian or South American dictators of their time. At the time, the logical conclusion was “Well, Waters is complaining about these people because he thinks they approach fascism” when, in retrospect, it seems more likely that he mainly objected to them because they represented the same government bloc that sent his dad to war many decades earlier. I mean, the guy wrote a song bitching about Bush Sr leveraging superior military technology to push Saddam out of Kuwait instead of… I dunno… letting a dictator just take over Kuwait? Sending in a bunch of other dads to die in an infantry fight to keep things “fair”? ---

I’ve said before- I want to ask Waters if he thinks we (any “we”, but especially Great Britain) shouldn’t have fought WWII. And if so, how does he think that would have worked out. ---

This is quite a comical demonstration of an utter lack of comprehension of what is in George’s head. As much as I detest Vlad and his vile enterprise, Waters does have some legitimate points that are much too readily dismissed by people who simply dislike what he has to say. He complains that we are eating up what the western media is spoon-feeding us, and he is clearly correct on that point (though, the implication that Russian media is not orders of magnitude worse is absurd). This overall situation is deeply fraught, and it is troubling that something the west contributed to (going back many decades) is being addressed the only way we know how, militarily. ---

Honestly, the impression I got from the media is that many Russian soldiers are as much victims as the Ukrainians they are directed to attack. Many don’t want to be there, some don’t want to fight, they aren’t trained or equipped or supported well. ---
