Wahoo! Got to see my all-time favorite horrible movie again last night thanks to insomnia. The best “poor little rich girl who is a musical prodigy and headed to Julliard who falls in love with with the roller disco champion from the wrong side of the boardwalk and helps save the skating rink from evil mobster developers” flick ever.

Does anyone know what type of car Linda Blair is driving in the movie? I seem to remember seeing a few of these abominations in the '70s IRL: are they “kit” cars? Did some misguided manufacturer actually mass produce these Frankenmobiles?

Great stills! Do you happen to know what the car is?

Not a clue. I just googled around and found some images and figured I’d link to them to save others the trouble. I have no affiliation to that site. (Thank og).

In fact, I read the thread title and thought to myself, “Wow, I hadn’t thought of that movie in years. And OTHER people saw it? I thought I was the only one. I MUST read this thread.”

Completely WAGish on my part, it _does_ look like a kit car.

It looks like an [Excalibur](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excalibur_(automobile)).

Here’s what _The World’s Worst Cars_ has to say about the Excalibur:

> [@](#):
>
> The Excalibur SSK is the perfect car for the buyer with lots of money and not enough taste. Launched in 1964, it was one of the first ‘nostalgia cars’, which used the styling of a vintage model but incorporated modern running gear. \<snip\> It was designed to be an exact replica of the Mercedes SSK – a car that collectors will happily pay millions for – but it turned out to be a poorly executed, overpriced kit car. \<snip\> But enthusiasts were horrified by the dishonesty of the concept behind Excalibur, and the car was pretty nasty to drive. \<snip\>

[Here is an Excalibur on eBay](http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1974-Excalibur-SS-Roadster-Series-II_W0QQitemZ280069046123QQihZ018QQcategoryZ6472QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

I looked at **Turek** ’s photos again and compared the ‘scallop’ running below the top of the door and below the top of the rear body, the shape of the door opening, and the instrument panel. They look the same to me.

That’s the car! Whoo . . . $40k on eBay for this abomination. Thanks for the research, Johnny L.A.

According to posters at the IMDb message board for _Matt Houston_, yes.
