Just off the top of my head, I’ll nominate: **Pink Floyd** ’s _Dogs_ - Rolling Stone lists _Sheep_, but I think Dogs is a better song. **Don McLean** _American Pie_- really surprised this isn’t on the Rolling Stone list. Most people I know consider it a beloved classic. ---

For the obligatory Rolling Stone author bashing, it’s clear by the presence of Oasis on this list that this was either written by a 22-year old intern doing a simple Billboard database sort of “running time” length, or there is a gas leak in the office and a draft was sent by mistake when trying to palm-mash 911 on their Blackberry. Or, Rolling Stone wouldn’t cook these up to generate page views would they? Would they? Snark finished, I feel better now. Intrigued by this notion, I opened iTunes and created a smart playlist of all my favorite songs longer than 7:00. Of the 149 results, here are a few of the interesting ones: “O Superman,” Laurie Anderson “Ball and Chain,” Big Brother & the Holding Company “Cold Sweat,” James Brown “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” CCR “Tunnel of Love,” Dire Straits “Slow Ride,” Foghat “Emily,” Joanna Newsom “Shine on You Crazy Diamond,” Pink Floyd (lots of good ones by them) “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking,” Rolling Stones “Marquee Moon,” Television Of course, Dylan is in a class by himself in this category; I’d add “Visions of Johanna,” “Stuck Inside of Mobile,” “Idiot Wind,” “It’s Alright, Ma,” “Desolation Row,” “Brownsville Girl,” “Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts” … ---

I thought Poco’s _Rose of Cimarron_ and The Eagles’ _Lyin’ Eyes_ were both at least 7 minutes, but they fall just short (@6:43 and 6:25, respectively). ---

Bob Marley Exodus comes to mind at 7:40. There are many more from Bob that cross the 7 minute mark but Exodus is a classic. ---

Ironically, the OP’er at that site is named “Roundabout”, but no mention of that song in the thread (much less the RS list)… _I’m Your Captain/Closer to Home_ is the most egregrious omission, and they chose the wrong songs for some other performers. _Sheep_ over _Echoes_ is particularly puzzling. I’d go with _D’You Know What I Mean_ over _Champagne Supernova_ too, but I guess it is still fashionable to diss _Be Here Now_… ---
