# Rolling Stone Tour: Tickets hit $1500.00!

Is this justified? Face it, these ageing rockers are long past their prime-Charly watts looks like his next stop should be the undertakers.
But, its a free country, and you can spend your money as you see fit. But would you do it? I think it is kind of pathetic-that so much is spent for so little.
How long since the Rolling Stones have come up with anew song?

I’m sorry, but there are very few artists that are worth paying more than $50 to see, and a handful of dead people that would probably be worth upwards of $100. I love music, and especially going to see live music, but things like that astound me.

I’ve seen the Stones three times at stadium concerts.
Were they good? Yes.
Was the show good? Yes.
Would I pay more than $60 to go see them? Never.

I had a hard time forking over $20 to see Primus last year, one of my favorite bands ever, so I can’t imagine someone actually paying that kind of money to see anyone in concert. It just goes to show you that some people have a lot more money than they could ever need.

Tom Waits is my musical hero, and he no longer tours much. I think he played a rare show in England late last year, and a pair of tickets sold (scalped) for something like 750 pounds each. Now I don’t know the conversion off the top of my head, but that’s way more than $750 in U.S. dollars. As much as I respect and worship Tom Waits, and as much as I’ve gotten out of his music, I couldn’t even justify more than $50 or so for a single ticket to see him. Whoever paid that much money, I hope Tom let them hang out with him for a week, put them up in a fancy hotel, and wrote an entire EP worth of songs in their honor.

The last time Paul McCartney came to Florida, it cost us $500 to see him, from about 100 rows back. That, apparently, is the last concert I will ever see. There is nobody in the world for whom I would fork over that kind of money for the privilege of being in the same room with them, ever again.

The most I’ve ever paid to see a specific band was when I dropped $30 to see Dream Theater. I’ve spent up to $60 for various rock festivals, but then I get to see upwards of 20 bands for one ticket.
I can’t believe anyone would pay that much to see a band that should’ve retired decades ago. Of course, YMMV.

In the DC area, the tickets were priced at $63.00 to $163.00 for the MCI Center, a basketball arena (not one of those mammoth stadiums).

I think that’s a scalper’s price. Top ticket price for the San Francisco show is $454, which is outrageous enough, but at least one reseller is reportedly asking [$5,350 a pop](http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2005/05/17/BUGRVCQ42O1.DTL) for front row seats. I love the Stones, but jeeeezus…

Ticket resales here in Boston have easily hit well over $1500 each. The figures they gave on the news last night were about $3500, which isn’t as bad as $5350.
But they’ve probably gottten that bad by today.
