Instead, I’d say just try to “accidently” run into her when she’s on her way to lunch or home or, if you really have a pair, just go to her office and ask to speak to her. No matter what, if she does reject you, make sure you acknowledge your respect for her choice and let her know in some gentler way than I can think to state it now, that you won’t harrass her by asking her again. But to answer the OP, I think giving a gift like that, is asking for trouble by either appearing unprofessional or possibly looking like you’re trying to bribe her to say yes when you finally do work up the courage to ask her out. ---

How bout having a print made and giving it to her, or at least ask her if she’ll want one. How hard is it to copy the painting and mat it? ---

We’ve already decided that giving a $300 dress to someone you’re not “dating” is a silly idea. I tend to apply that thinking to a $250 painting as well. I like that painting - why don’t you give it to me? I PROMISE I will not like you back! 🙂 ---

First things first…I think you now have gotten enough feedback to not give her the painting. Second…give me the painting (fair warning, I’m a hetero married guy)! I think that’s a fantastic painting! I like the warm vs. cool colors, I think the trees are particularly well-executed, and the pier in the distance just looks…right. the shadows are good, and they appear to be consistent with the sun’s position (love the sun as well). I thought it was a person coming back to the boat while doing a butterfly stroke, but I can buy a “bird” as well. Do you sell? Do you have a website? -Cem ---

I tried really hard to bring out the 3D effects and get the logical shadows right, as well as make the water look wet. To be honest, this wasn’t a really original work. It was an exercise from an instruction book. But I still had to make a lot of decisions about color and composition and technique. I gave up on using spatter for the trees. That just put leaves everywhere except where they were supposed to be. Mostly on my floor and furniture. And I hate to disappoint you, but what could be taken as arms or wings are actually oars. I don’t have a website and I’ve only sold one painting, but ex-GF said I should try to sell on ebay. I think I’ll wait until I have at least two years experience before thinking about that. ---

What are you going to build up to, if you’re starting off with your premium material? Let’s say you give her the painting (it’s nice, btw) and ya’ll hit it off. A month later it’s her birthday. Whatcha gonna do then? Paint a mural of her nude body on the Empire State Building? ! On preview, congrats on the lunch appointment. ---
