There was a street that was full of street performers on weekend nights. I forget the name. Anyone know what I’m talking about?
Okay, I think it was Granville Street.
The only thing that makes me question my memory on this is that Wiki doesn’t mention it. Maybe they don’t do it anymore.
Talking about streets made me think of Robson Street, a famous shopping district.
I stayed several blocks from there at the Landis.
I stayed in one of the suites but you have to book them for a minimum of a month.
The Harbour Centre Lookout is usually what tourists gravitate to, to get a good view of the city. Honestly, though, if your target is the revolving restaurant and not just the observation deck, I’d recommend Cloud 9 instead. Pricing for the food is about the same, but (IMO) better crafted and less tourists dads yelling at their unruly teenagers…
Typical west-coast lifestyle!
Although, the OP says he’s coming from Seattle, so it shouldn’t be that big of a culture shock. The open pot smoking in front of the Art Gallery might be, though!
My wife and I did a Vancouver/Victoria trip several years ago. Very romantic. We treated the Victoria island trip as an overnight excursion. Took the ferry over (no car) and took a float plane back to Vancouver, very cool. We also spent a night up at Whistler.
On our last trip to Victoria, about a year ago, we stayed at Abigail’s Hotel (sorry about the Google link; their website seems to be down), which was very nice and within easy walking distance of the downtown Victoria attractions. We also had a very good meal at Cafe Brio, which was not too far away.
In case you haven’t chosen a hotel yet, I just received a “web saver” for Coast Hotels - we stayed at the Coast Plaza in the West End in Fall 2008. Great location! Short walk to the shore, ferries to Granville Island, Stanley Park and lots and lots of good restaurants, including Legendary Noodle.
This link might work: http://www.coasthotels.com/hotels/canada/bc/vancouver/coast_plaza/packages_and_specials/websaver?utm_source=Coast%2BHotels%2BGuests&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2011%2BSummer%2BWeb%2BSaver
Here is the thread I started in 2008 about our trip. I am embarrassed to see I never went back to it to review our trip and choices. I really thought I had done.
