Whether it was abusive really hinges on how it made the dog feel. I can’t imagine any of my pets NOT being terrified at being contained in a crate that was tied to the roof of a car and driven 300 miles, but maybe Romney’s dog was particularly brave. I wouldn’t chance it, myself, and yeah, it makes me think less of Romney as a human being **if that dog was scared**. But I don’t know if he was scared for sure. ---

I’m inclined to agree with this general sentiment, but in defense of Clinton’s misbehavior: that hummer was a consensual act. Romney’s dog, on the other hand, was forced to endure open air and weather in a cramped shit-filled box as the family traveled 12 hours through several climates. And apparently had to endure a high pressure car wash while still trapped in the box. I have no idea how the dog felt during the journey and hosing incident, but it sounds like a miserable, unnecessarily cruel experience. Such callous behavior seems to indicate a lack of empathy. Not a quality I look for in a leader. ---
