I just told my spouse that DeSantis dropped out. She replied, “I thought he already had.” This seems to be the root of the problem. All that money and effort, and he was unable to move the needle even a little. ---

But this greatly decreases face-eating opportunities in the Republican Party. The more Trump and his supporters had to give a little divided attention to the nomination (even if in the bag), the better. I imagine Haley will soon follow and it will just be effectively a no-primary campaign (or worse Biden will attract a little more internal opposition than Trump). Bad for democracy, bad for this election.
