I recall a scene from the recent film [_The Alamo_](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Alamo_%282004_film%29) (not the one with John Wayne as Davy Crockett; the one with Billy Bob Thornton as Davy Crockett): A group of _Tejanos_ of San Antonio are discussing (via subtitles) the relative merits of Santa Anna vs. the Americans. One notes Santa Anna is a tyrant, which nobody disputes. But another remarks, “But Santa Anna only wants to rule Mexico. These men want the whole world.” ---

Anyway, this is probably all just a pretext for Ron Paul to promote one of his famous gadgets that can detect terrorist attacks, scramble an egg in its shell, and slice a tomato paper-thin. ---

I’m still unsure of why all the conspiracy nuts have glommed onto Paul, even though he doesn’t echo their sentiments at all. I mean, the only thing they have in common is that Paul trusts other politicians as far as he can throw them. He doesn’t believe them to have the magical ability to stage flawless and elaborate hoaxes like these folks do. With a US battle fleet parked just offshore of Iran and a lot of blame being tossed on Iran for the insurgency and instability in Iraq, I can’t see why a Gulf of Tonkin-style overreaction to a minor incident is implausible. The Politico and PrisonPlanet completely misrepresented what Paul said, just to gain eyeballs, and that’s nothing new either. I like Paul, but I really don’t know why he continues to give interviews to Alex Jones’ show, when he has plenty of “reputable” media outlets willing to talk to him these days. ---

(BTW, In contrast to his “moon bat” score of 333, Googling “Ron Paul” and “wing nut” returns 50,300 hits. Interestingly, “Ron Paul” and “bat wing” only got 68 hits, so we may conclude that, while possibly nocturnal, he is not a true flying mammal. On a hunch, I tried “flying squirrel” [actually a glider] and got 336 hits. Research continues.) ---
