Still the deciding argument seems to be Reagan’s manner - his presence. So, was Reagan just a front for man Peggy Noonan? Perhaps she could have done the same for a Gregory Peck, Arthur Godfrey, Herb Schriner or Paul Harvey.

It’s forgotten now, because inflation hasn’t been an issue in 30 years, but it was a huge problem at the time, and Reagan played a role in ending it.

Give Paul Volcker credit for that (and Carter credit for selecting him to head the Fed). The role Reagan played was to renominate him after the groundwork had been done.\
