Time for all out war I say. Dunk his toothbrush in the toilet. Fart on his pillow. Mix in some oregano with his pot. Make him some breakfast or goodies with your hair in it (not too much). Find a dirty old hobo and let him shower in his bathroom (if he has a private one). Recommend to him that he read _Silas Marner_ and really stick with it because the ending is worth it. Keep bringing it up to him. 😃 Then move when the lease is up. ---

Just go to the landlord and say you want to sign a new lease. If he allows it then problem solved, if not then simply move, the roommate and the landlord against you sucks but so it goes. ---

Option with the least inconvenience and trauma: Move, obtaining any deposits due you. Do the revenge tip-off of the cops later. ---

And by acting as a front man in paying for the rest of you, that’s the image #5 has projected to the landlord, accurately or not. Your best strategy to continue living here at the same rent is to find your own band of 4 other cohorts (just Roomate #1 isn’t going to cut it) and appeal directly to the landlord to make your lot the set who gets the next lease instead of Roomate #5 and his Ganja Squad. Bringing up the Ganja Squad bit may or may not help you. Aside from the possibility that he’s paying the landlord in pot (funny but not impossible), he may also view it as as way of income assurance that you will not be able to provide (“demand for weed on campus is always going to be there!”). Of course if Roomate #5 is viewed as liable to send the place Up In Smoke or to get arrested or something, that could change his POV. ---
