Root Beer

I must be a heathen, I hate root beer.

A couple years ago introduced root beer to a couple of guests from New Zealand. They hated it, called it rude and nasty. Last year my wife and I went to New Zealand. We were introduced to a local soft drink they like called L&P. It has to be one of the nastiest things I have ever tasted. I’ll take a Thomas Kemper root beer please.

My boyfriend’s son swears by Crater Lake Root Beer. He feels it’s the best you can buy around here. I found it at Albertsons.

When in Milwaukee I always stop at Sprecher’s
Other than that, A&W.

Birch beer has been mentioned in this thread. For the curious (and of the right age), it tastes just like Teaberry gum.

It does to me, anyway.

If Sprecher’s isn’t one of the choices, it’s not worth voting.

I hate root beer. My first ‘real job’ was at A&W (I had other jobs, like working at a guide for horseback trail rides).

When I was a kid we used to make root beer, using a bottled extract (Hires, I think), water, & yeast. Brew it in a big tub, bottle it in old soda bottles, cap 'em with a capper, put them in the cellar for a couple of weeks, clean up the bottles that exploded, and enjoy!

This would have been late '50s early 60s.

Anyone else ever do this?

Barqs!

and a pox to anyone who says otherwise!

A&W root beer from a restaurant and not from a bottle or can is probably the best. Ice cold from the keg in those big mugs…

Since this topic is 14 years old, I’m going to close it. Feel free to make a new one in CS, if you want, though.
