Roy Williams is NOT a traitor, K.U. fans..get over it!

Haw HAW!
Go Mizzou!

Casey, a little scuttlebutt, third-hand at best, for you: The woman I worked with at my last temp. job also runs a cleaning business in the evenings, and one of her contracts is a big country club. She overheard conversation between a few Movers and Shakers in UNC sports – Booster Club leaders who are also on some board or other connected with the athletic program. And their opinion was that Doherty was very conceited and domineering, incapable of motivating the team as it should be motivated – that three years was plenty of time for him to prove himself, make the Bobby Knight-style coaching effective if he could – and that he needed to be gotten rid of.

And, forgive me, but when seven Marines are killed in Iraq and that’s a subsidiary front-page story, the lead story being that Williams hasn’t made up his mind yet, there’s a real problem of warped perspective there.

Aw, man, what’s happened to Channel 16? They used to have Joe Zone!

I thought the thread title was Roy Williams is NOT a tractor. Carry on.

Holy Shit!! You’re familiar with Joe Zone?!? He was an asshole, too, but he’s so much better than Ping! And Zone never, ever would have said (actually from Ping’s mouth the other day) “…and for the two of you who care, who cares about final four hockey, what is it, Frozen Four?? Pfft, college hockey. I don’t care. Nobody cares…”

How do you know about Joe Zone?

…and give tonight your best shot…

Casey: I used to live in the Williamsport area. Everyone watched Channel 16, WNEP. Best Zone moment I can remember: when he had to wear a bag over his head during a newscast, because he’d foolishly made a bet on the Yankees in their dog days.

I hear that Joe Zone is now working in the Syracuse area, and his wife Maria works for Court TV.

Joe Zone does indeed work in Syracuse. And I am quite familiar with “Ping”–he’s a great big bag of suck.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

Ok, laughing at the beakers’ misfortune is now outta my system. KU losing their coach, Illinois losing theirs to KU…it’s a great time to be a Tiger

Seriously though, Roy Williams was a pretty good coach for them. It probably wouldn’t have ended with such bitterness for the beakers if he’d just gone 3 years ago. I think the fact that he turned it down and acted all “I love KU!!” a few years ago, and then leaves now, that’s what drew their ire.

And I feel bad for their recruits. They thought they were gonna be playing a high-energy fast break transition offense guaranteed to get 'em highlights on ESPN, now they’re stuck with whatever style the new coach brings. If it’s Bill Self, well he went to OSU and then spent the last few years in the Big 10+1, so prepare for pure half-court offense, aka “Bored in 35 seconds.”

Sorry, laughed so hard I broke the page columns :frowning:

And how is your ineffectual pretty boy coach, these days, anyway?

Agreed; or for as much feeling as I could muster over this, yeah, that’s how I felt. I still think Roy’s a class act, and I don’t begrudge him his new position, but I also understand how the more rabid fans are upset because he did decide to leave just a short time after his original decision not to.

Try living in Maryland. The local news stations are obsessed with getting the “local angle” on every story, big or small, that crosses the news desk. For example, when John Walker Lindh was captured in Afghanistan, the biggest news here was that he lived in Maryland for a few months some years ago. Big fucking deal!

And they’re just as bad with sport. When the University of Maryland Terrapins got knocked out during March Madness, it seemed for a minute that the local sports “journalists” would have nothing to talk about. But never fear, because it turned out that Syracuse star Carmelo Anthony grew up in the Baltimore area, so we got to spend the last two weeks of the season listening to interviews with his mother, his high school basketball coach, former team-mates, etc., etc., etc. And every report of a Syracuse game, up to and including the national championship, contained references to “Baltimore local Carmelo Anthony.” Again, i say, big fucking deal. We don’t need to hear the word “Baltimore” to pay attention to the story, you morons.

As a Georgetown College grad (Class of '99), I gotta say two things:
1) We’re not that bad of a school, actually. In fact, I like to say we’re the Harvard of north-central Kentucky.
2) Life College or Pacific Lutheran or Oklahoma Baptist can have Doherty instead. We’ll keep Happy Osborne, thank you very much.

That is all.

Oops. My first multiple post. Forgiveness please.

Is that like being the best Swimmer in Arizona?
