No post for Royal Pains yet? So I guess I’ll start one. What did everyone think of this? I thought it was ok. Good enough to watch another episode or two. I liked the Physician’s Assistant and the hint of mystery / conflict around her. Is she one of the wealthy? Why is she applying for the job? I also thought that there could be an interesting father-son dynamic between Hank and Tucker (the hemophiliac kid). And the love interest – the local hospital administrator – wasn’t hard to look at, either. What do you think? J. ---

I loved Tucker. I could see lots of him. Yes, I think the PA is a dilettante richie. Who was the actress with the flat tire? Could swear I’ve seen her before. I wonder how expensive this is to shoot? I thought that possibly Tucker’s house and Flat Tire house was the same place, just shot at different angles. A local critic says he’s seen several episodes and that it gets better from the first one. So if you liked it well enough to stick around, you’ll probably keep liking it. I know the brother is supposed to be annoying, but I hope they tone him down some. ---

I thought it was okay. Is it made by the same people who made Burn Notice? It definitely feels similar, cinematography-wise, with the quick pans of he local scenery. I was honestly more annoyed by the main character than the brother. By 30 minutes in I was sick of his “holier-than-thou, sick of the Hamptons” attitude. Hopefully it will get toned down now that he’s actually staying. ---

It’s supposed to get better, eh? I thought last night’s ep was OK. Didn’t suck me in immediately like Burn Notice or The Mentalist, but I’m gonna give it a chance. I wondered how many things the lead character would have to go through before he realizes he was doing the area a favor. I thought for sure after the Hospital Admin told him the hospital was grateful he’d change his tune… I really liked the assistant character. She cracked me up several times with her pithy comments. ---

I liked it. It’s a medical dramedy that isn’t trying to copy House (not a fan of Mental). Between this and Burn Notice, I’m trying to figure out when USA started making good shows. ---

Giant, giant MEH from both me and the wife. Lots of cheese and unlikely drama. Liked the brother, hated the PA. May watch another episode or two, but won’t go out of my way. Dang it, I KNEW they had hits the first times I ever watched Monk, Psych, and Burn Notice. I’m getting no vibes about Royal Pains. ---

I don’t know, Burn Notice took me a while. Pretty much all the side-characters (Fi, Sam, and the Mom) were all real annoying and one-note at first. ---

There was a lot of improbable stuff and a few cliches that normally would tick me off, but I liked the show anyway. I really like Tucker, the brother grew on me, and I liked that the Flat Tire lady accepted the doctor’s solution to her problem with good humor. The locations aren’t hard to look at either. What **are** The Hamptons anyway? A cluster of villages? ---

Can somebody explain the “New Paltz Newburg” reference? I’ve never lived in New York and don’t know what kind of reputations the various municipalities have with one another. Isn’t New Paltz a fairly generic college town? ---
