The short answer as to why I wouldn’t want to get rid of the monarchy is, it works. Sure, if a new country started up, a monarchy would be a ridiculous idea, but at the moment it’s working here, and getting rid of it just for the sake of it seems pointless. And, for that matter, expensive. Oh, and as **Miller** said, OP, you are indeed a fucking moron. ---

I’m just shocked that no royalists are alerting the masses to the joy and satisfaction they’ve gained from royal-cooch-worship. I mean, damn, as far as I ever knew, nobody’s seen HER cooch since… wait, how old is Prince Charlie again? 60something? So yeah… I was thinking cooch under serious wraps there. If people are getting regular worshipful access to royal hoochie, that means I’m missing out, cause I sure as snot don’t want to see Hillary’s or Obama’s. Yeck. Besides, since they aren’t royalty themselves, how do we even know they HAVE any themselves? I don’t want to find out, personally. That’s it. I’m moving to England. ---

The incomprehensible first post has made me subscribe to this thread to figure out where Naxos’ brain is at. As for why the Royalty is still around…it works. They provide a touch of class (real or imagined) and are dignitaries for their countries (we are talking about democratic countries that have a monarchy and not full-on monarchy here). Royalty has always been hereditary so it’s fine (and cheap!) to let that continue. It saves the President (or Prime Minister what have you) from having to do quite as much in terms of diplomacy (after all, who would you rather have at your function, the PM or the Queen?). Also, it would be quite a pain in the butt to change the current parliamentary system (both in the UK and here in Canada) which is theoretically based on approval by a sovereign. ---
