IMO, Romney made the best one-liner in the election so far, when he Dole-ishly observed that the Mormon is the only (Republican) candidate with one wife.
Nah, that was just the best line by a _Republican_ candidate.

Best line by a Dem (and overall, IMHO), was Biden’s line about the typical Rudy sentence being a noun, a verb, and 9/11.

**John** , IMHO, Rudy is trying to run on family values, just not in the usual way, since he’s kinda handicapped in that respect. 🙂 But he’s telling the fundies that he’ll give them the things that they regard as the _political_ expression of family values - he’s said he’ll give them judges and Justices along the lines of the current Supreme Court conservatives; he’s said he’ll block gay rights measures that Congress passes; he’s cozied up to Pat Robertson, who presumably discussed Rudy’s future social policies with him before endorsing him; etc.

Yes and no. He’s saying he’ll keep the feds out of these things and leave it to the states. If he comes out in support of a federal ban on abortions or a federal constitutional amendment banning SSM, then I’d say he was campaigning on a Family Values theme. I’d says he’s trying to minimize the loss he’s going to get because he’s not your standard GOP pol. Can’t fault him for that. But I agree with him on keeping the feds out of state matters, and I ain’t no Family Values type. It’s entirely plausible that he sees this as a federal vs state matter as opposed to a “Family Values” vs “lets not legislate morality” issue. The fact that he’s packaging those views so they are more palatable to the conservative base is just smart politics. It’s not even clear that it’s working, btw.
I don’t understand what the big deal is. The mayor of ferchristsake Baltimore has several security officers around her at all times, and B-more is a pissant little 'burg compared to NYC. The former Governor, Willie Don Schaffer, travels with a security guard, and he’s not even in office any more. Actually, I do understand what this big deal is, this is RTF’s recreational outrage against anyone with a (R) next to their name du jour, but this one is weak even by those lowered standards.
Baltimore has a higher murder rate than NYC. And a MUCH higher murder rate than the Hamptons (von Bulows possibly accepted).

Looks like Rudy’s campaign is [changing its story](http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2007/12/07/2007-12-07_judith_nathan_got_security_earlier.html?page=0) about Judi’s police protection:

> [@](#):
>
> Judith Nathan got taxpayer-funded chauffeur services from the NYPD earlier than previously disclosed - even before her affair with then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani was revealed, witnesses and sources tell the Daily News.
>
> “It went on for months before the affair was public,” said Lee Degenstein, 52, a retired Smith Barney vice president who formerly lived at 200 E. 94th St., Nathan’s old building.
>
> “It was going on longer than anybody thought,” added Degenstein, who, along with others in the neighborhood, said they often saw Nathan hopping into unmarked NYPD cars in early 2000, before the affair was revealed that May.
>
> When pressed by The News Thursday, aides to the Republican presidential hopeful conceded that Nathan got police protection “sporadically” before December 2000 - the previously acknowledged beginning of her taxpayer-funded detail.
>
> Then-Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik said in January 2001 the NYPD assigned Nathan round-the-clock protection the month before because of an unspecified threat against her on a streetcorner near her home. He insisted at a news conference she had no guards until then.
>
> Thursday, Giuliani aides changed their story. They said Nathan had received previously undisclosed “threats” earlier in 2000, and that protection was provided at those times.
>
> They refused to provide dates, describe the nature of the threats or confirm - as witnesses and a law enforcement source now contend - that the protection began before she was publicly identified as the married mayor’s girlfriend in May 2000.
>
> That would make the threat justification all the more puzzling, because she wasn’t a public figure.

Not only that, but once again, _they had no official relationship_. I mean, can the mayor of NYC extend police protection to _any of his friends_ who receives some sort of threat? Did Clinton fall down on the job by not detailing Secret Service agents to protect Monica Lewinsky once she became a household name?

Anyway, it’s possible that Rudy’s crew may have to change their story some more:

> [@](#):
>
> A law enforcement source familiar with mayoral protection said Nathan got bodyguards as far back as 1999, shortly after the affair began.
>
> “If she had to go shopping, errands, that’s where you went,” the source said.

It wasn’t that he told his wife that they were getting a divorce when she was being treated for cancer. That was Newt. What I was remembering?

He told her she was being divorced by giving a press conference. She wasn’t present, either.

Rudy is not only an adulterer but he left his family when he did it. He had the police walking his girlfriends dog. If he sees this as ok. Where does he stop.
He has Kerek and many dirty financial transaction to avoid explaining. He is what I detest in a pol. Dirty and selfish.

[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IrE6FMpai8](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IrE6FMpai8) This is real presidential too. He has done this a few times.
