Yeah, you don’t need me here. Pretty decent explanation that.
For You, assuming you are American, I would try watching 7s or Rugby League. They eliminate much of the technical aspect of the game that is involved in the Union full 15 a side game. In fact, I have long thought that, if a form of rugby is to take off in the USA, League could well be it. It works much more like the NFL but is continuous. Effectively, you have 6 “downs” to score a try/go the length of the field, so inevitably, you wind up kicking on the 5th tackle and the game becomes one of territory. But after each tackle, the defending team retreat 10 yards and the attacking team essentially get a free pass to give it back to their players, so it eliminates rucks, mauls etc. The best league is played in Australia. You should try some State of Origin games (New South Wales play Queensland in a best of three series every year - it’s basically the best standard of league on the planet)
Personally, I prefer Union, as the technical stuff is some of what I find interesting about the game and gives rise to different tactics to win the game (playing through the technical areas of the game with your big players can be just as effective - done well - as playing a more open game). League is a good game too though, and much easier to understand.
