I’m assuming they like the taste of beer not the buzz or else the product wouldn’t sell.

Yep. Hops have been. Not hop extract. Not hoppy beer. We’re talking the literal green bud which is present in exactly zero beers ever produced. For fuck’s sake.

_Chronically_. Christ, for a board dedicated to fighting ignorance, the ignorance about alcohol is frightening.

Do you know what triggered the horticultural revolution? Beer. Do you know what the drove the advent of currency? Beer. Do you know what the majority of humanity has consumed for liquid since 10,000 BCE? Beer.

Beer is not–as claimed above–full of empty calories. Beer is actually an incredibly nutritious food. Canines do well will grains and grain extracts complementing their diets, and a beer or two a day (5% or below, less depending upon size) is a perfectly healthy adjunct to regular diet.

But hey, OP. Your ignorance obviously colors your impressions. I agree that you should avoid the dude. He deserves the boon.

Beer is the reason for civilization, but because it made water safe to drink during the brewing process, not because it’s some incredibly nutritious food that’s good for your health. It was less bad for health than unsanitary water.

My bird dog, 65# learned he could tip over my beer can and lick it up. I started pooring him about 1/2 can and he seemed to enjoy it. He lived 16 years and was a wonderful dog. I have another friend with a pet pig that he eventualy ate but the pig got at least two six packs a week. He claimed it would improve the taste of the meat. I couldn’t eat a pet.

A beer or two a day is all that is reccommended for a fully grown _person_ to consume. Scale that down to a 50# dog and common sense might indicate that it’s not the best idea.

I think the guy’s a lunatic. A case of week for a dog???
Wow. I’m curious if the dog told him specifically to get the beer. I wouldn’t be surprised.
It’s recommended to ditch this guy.

You strike me as a bit strange. Twice, you used the term/phrase (or similar wording) ‘question his empathy.’ Hmmmm…I’m kinda wondering what’s up with that one.

I find it strange that people don’t see how others treat animals as an indication of empathy. Seems like a lot of people are missing the point in this thread, and more than one person has even become hostile for absolutely no reason.

Yah, I was wondering that as well. I’ve never seen a human beer that retails in less than 12-ounce cans (or bottles). I’m not saying that no such beer exists, but you’d really have to work hard to find it. Even high-alcohol beers normally sell in 12-ounce cans or bottles, or in pint bottles.

What’s the “(RIP)” for? Rolling Rock still exists, doesn’t it? Coulda sworn I saw some not too long ago.

Anyhow, my doggie seems to enjoy sipping on some beer. I would never ever, as a regular course, give him beer, much less a case a week. That just sounds crazy to me, and I drink beer pretty much every day.

This is going to be an annoying nitpick, but 11.2 oz (about 333 mL) is not unusual. Guinness Draft in a bottle, for example, is 11.2 oz. There’s a number of European beers I’ve seen sold in that size (like some Stiegl I recently bought). Nothing I’d buy by the case and give to the dog, though.

I would certainly judge him on that. Sounds like an idiot. While I doubt the beer will do any immediate harm, it’s a fairly safe bet that it’s not a healthy thing for the dog to be consuming. What motivation does he have to do it? Because he thinks it’s funny?

Ain’t you cute.

I’ve spent a lot of time around the industry, production, and consumption of ethanol. What scares me is the fundamental ignorance of the US population about it, its consumption, and its effects. The population of the US retains a scary amount of Prohibition misinformation and myth in its collective consciousness. Both misinformation and myth have been propagated under the aegis of confronting (validly and rightfully) drunk driving.

**Monkey** , yes beer was safer than water, but that’s not why it was the driver of civilization. First, it provided the impetus to cultivate crops (not the desire to make bread), because people like to get buzzed. Second, it provided a very efficient source of healthful calories, harnessed to build things like, you know, the Pyramids. Third, it required fewer tools and equipment than almost any other manufactured product–with access to ingredients, all that’s needed is a hole in the ground.

**Sicks** You look _smashing_ in that armor, but the recommendations you allude to come out of the provincial Prohibition myths noted above.

**Poster** I don’t date people who proudly bring a metric shit-ton of ignorance onto a message board dedicated to fighting ignorance. Lucky it worked out for the both of us, huh?
