I don’t have anything to say about the OP. I have passed on his posts. Manhattan, though, needs new clever response. I don’t mean to be mean to the moderator, I mean to challenge him. Telling one poster alone to refrain from posting on a thread may have no precedent. I do not care to research now, I am still a little weary from the Pit thread about that chick who keeps bitching about. So I am not planning on doing a detailed review of his posts. The post in question seemed weird, but harmless, but he likely has a history of weird, annoying posts. ---

Mmmmmmm…I’m about to throw my rep to the winds, but here goes. I can understand **Uekte** ’s feeling stung. His opinions are unfounded, his tone is unpleasant, and his attitude is belligerent. We’ve had such posters here, and they’ve been banned. But usually, bannings either follow stern warnings (often in e-mail as well as on the board, I imagine) or they occur when the poster is just out of the gate. **Uetke** established an identity similar to ones that have gotten people banned after 10 posts. But he wasn’t banned. He was allowed to stay long enough to state a defense. The defense was not accepted, but he did get to state it. I think that opportunity, plus his silence for approx. a week (remember, he stopped responding to the “fuckface” thread in the Pit) gave him the hope that he could continue stating his “unpopular” opinions. As someone else pointed out in the closed thread, many active posters state unpopular opinions around here. I’m not a mod, so I don’t know **precisely** what prompts a banning. Some people have been nasty in ways that made me say, “I can’t believe they’re not banned!”, but they weren’t. However, the **decision** to ban is that of the mods’. And as **Libertarian** pointed out in the closed thread, the mods are not machines, so I’m not claiming that any one banning or continued registration is fair or unfair. But I can see how **Uekte** was able to take **manhattan** ’s warning as an insult. It wasn’t “Say something like that again and you’re banned”, it was “If you post in **this** thread, you’ll go to bed without supper.” I thought the MO was to warn an unpleasant person , then let him post away, and ban him if he went over the line despite the warnings. But the GQ thread sounds like **Uekte** ’s a dog being told to stay off the couch. It does sound like different rules: he’s not being banned, just restricted. Again, nothing personal to **manhattan**. I know you’re human, and I know you’ve saved the SDMB’s collective bacon more than once. Just channeling Voltaire for a moment. ---

Proofreading is essential. I meant to complete the sentence about Pit thread of that chick and her boyfriend who kept arguing online. I like banned poster spotting. What was the final thing said that banned him (or her). Were there any warnings? Or was the guilty party quietly banned. Call me stupid, but I am somewhere between being tired but not sleepy. ---

Dooku’s thread, which is about in 4th place as I write has a detailed thread of numerous posts of Uekle. Thanks for saving me from the research. A long time ago, I proposed a banned posters forum. Most people got confused. In the future I will propose “banned poster thread spotting.” Incorporating my above posts ideas. ---

**Uekte** , the reason the no one is banning those who want to get rid of you is that you are bringing those sorts of requests upon yourself. You repeatedly just spout out obscenities towards anyone who argues one of your posts, then when people get mad, you accuse everyone of being sycophants(to whom, I don’t know). Do you really think you’ll build a fan base this way? The more appropriate method would have been to start by selling baseball caps and T-Shirts with your logo on it. ---

Oh, and as far as I can remember, no one has been banned for asking to ban another user. It’s not a case of “special rules for certain people,” it’s that the rule is just a minute one that no mod is going to throw a tantrum about. ---

**Uekte,** I did insult you, although rather mildly. I intend to insult you every chance I get. You deserve to be insulted. You are a complete waste of oxygen and your stated views on the elderly are an insult to me personally, and to every right-thinking person alive. You are completely despicable, a word I don’t use lightly. In your case, I use it because it fits. You are scum, wretched, slimy, smelly, scum. I was a bit shocked at the use of power, but I still think it was entirely appropriate since, well, it worked. The piling on and baiting is in the pit. The GQ is in GQ. Can I suggest that if **Uekte** has something relevant to the GQ, email a mod privately saying “BlahBlahBlah is relevent. Can I post it.” Then when it turns out it wasn’t we can praise manhattens forsight. Oh, and if by any chance anyone was wrongly baned from a thread they can post too. ---

It generally is used just like Ukeltele did: The poster writes something mind-bogglingly stupid OR borderline trollish that _no one_ agrees with.
