If you’re just making one or two cuts, a serrated kitchen knife ought to be OK. May not be the cleanest cuts in the world - if you need clean cuts, either cut a bit long and plan to sand them down to length, or use a fine-tooth molding saw of the sort that you probably don’t have.
A regular saw will really make a mess as its teeth are bigger. If you’ve got a hacksaw, that would work pretty well and give a decent cut.
The word hacksaw always makes me think of serial killers. “He hacksawed his victims and buried them in shallow unmarked graves in his back yard.”
“He was a very quiet neighbor, always kept to himself.”
“Did seem to like planting stuff in his back yard at night, though.”
Today is payday at work because tomorrow is one of them many bazillion holidays federal guvmint workers and banks take off. I know it’s payday cause the little payslip thing that shows up in my work mail box on payday which is usually every other Friday showed up today. Direct deposit is our friend.
That’s terrible, picunurse! Hope he gets better soon.
I think my next apartment will have a washer/dryer hookup so then I’ll get to think about Frigidaire vs. Kenmore vs. Whirlpool. Woo. It’ll be great not to have to worry about having enough quarters!
Mika, I think you and BF should do something wild like doin’ it at the top of the Empire State Building or something. Join the mile high club maybe?
I forgot to mention that my washer and dryer are Sears Kenmores. So were my old washer and dryer. When I replaced 'em they still worked fine except I broke a knob on the dryer and was using a pair of pliers to turn the temp control thingy. I gave 'em to Goodwill. I know somebody (several somebodies actually) who works for Goodwill who told me they replaced the knob on the dryer and sold 'em as a pair the first day they put ‘em in the store. They were 15 years old at the time. I’m bettin’ they’re still being used.
When I was a junior in high school my homeroom number was 222 and my locker number was 222. I haven’t thought about that in years and years and years. Puggy’s post made me think of it. My cell phone number I have to think about but that I can remember. :dubious:
It’s nice of you to think of me Kallie, even though I don’t show up around here as much as I’d like.
Yes. Some of us boys do. Sometimes. But not usually.
Happy Birthday Gardentraveler!
You want this week’s pus story? Well, bad news, I ain’t got one. No big blood or vomit stories either. But speaking of blood, I drew blood for the first time (and second time too) this week. And I was in charge of x-rays on Monday. I did a good job with it once I put the x-ray film cassette in the right way.
The bad thing about shooting x-rays is the lead vest you have to wear. It’s not too bad to wear at the time, really. It’s afterwards. It made my shoulders hurt the next day. Only I didn’t know why.
“Ow!” I said. “My shoulders hurt! And I don’t know why.”
Then I remembered all the time I spent x-raying and I figured it out. (I’m clever that way.)
Speaking of clever, Soupo got his report card Monday. All A’s bay-bee! The kid is smart!
DH does all the heavy/outside/noisy work around here and he’s got lots of tools (Our running joke is “That’s under the hood, right?”) I’ll have to ask him about a molding saw, I can’t quite remember if we have a hacksaw. But I do remember having a saw like they use at Christmas tree farms around here when I was a teen. (Yes, I’m living in the house I grew up in) Maybe I’ll walk out to the garage and take a look.
Personally, I think tomorrow should be a holiday for all veterans. Probably 'cuz I am one and I need all the holidays I can get! Huh? Everyday’s a holiday when you’re a SAHM? :dubious:
I turned 6 on the 6th some time back now. (If you want to know how old I am just ask Little Miss[sup]TM[/sup], she’s quite willing to announce it! ) She’ll be 6 on her next birthday and she’s always been quite interested in ages. Since she was born in 2000, her age will always match the year.
Psst…jayjay, I think swampy might be just a leettle older…
My homeroom teacher was this total bear type. It was all I could do to not giggle and drool uncontrollably everytime he spoke to me. Stirred up all my 16 year old hormones he did.
Oh and Red (that’s your nickname), just so you know, I believe Room 222 was a popular tv show during my high school years. Ranked right up there with The Brady Bunch. Also, All In The Family made its television debut during my senior year of high school. There’s a point in all this somewhere.
Howdy Rue! Is gettin’ to xray like a step up in the social hierarchy at work? Way to go Soupo! WOOHOO! How’s Katcha gettin’ along in kiddy garden?
Oh yeah… I meant to say:
It sorta cracks me up the MMP made it to the “Beginner’s Guide to Glossary of Terms on Straight Dope Message Boards” over on ATMB. I mean I just started the whole thing to “lower the bar” on posting around here. Facts? We don’t need no steenking facts. Spelling? It’s for the weak. The MMP is. That is enough.
But it makes me cry that C K Dexter Haven called me a “he or she”. Like everyone doesn’t know all about me! Really!
The x-ray thing is just something we have to know. Like everything else in the vet hospital. Everyone just has to know how to do everything.
Katcha has his own little arch-nemisis in Kindergarten. Every day we hear about their on-going clash. But this other kid got moved to another table (for the stupid kids, I’m sure) so Katcha won. All in all he’s just Jake with the whole school thing.
And the best news is finally the school levy around here passed. So Soupo gets to ride the bus again starting after Christmas.
Revel in it, dude. You send me those private e-mails every so often with your real name, and I’m scratching my head 'cuz I have know clue who you really are…
Sean --I think it was the QA as well. Either that or wearing heels to work (I usually wear Nike’s)–and that made me tired. Or maybe I’m fighting off sumthin’.
I fell asleep yesterday at 8pm and woke at 0230 and couldn’t go back to sleep.
ACLS* exam tomorrow, have been at class since 0800 today. Got out early (woot!).
I’m fairly confident I’ll pass–I’ve been doing this for about 15 years. Still, I will review.

Happy Day, gardentraveler!
And hello Rue --I’m eleanorigby. Nice to meetcha. (and who cares what CK Dexter Haven thinks, anyhoo?)
