I think it will, jjim. I posted a reply to the thread i started on Friday (about the letter to clinton and PNAC), and I voiced my concerns about Bush going on a rampage through the region. No doubt, Israel will be drafted in to help them “liberate” the whole region. And after, that, the whole world. So yes, I think we are potentially looking at WWIII… ---

… wouldn’t that be nice for the ‘pro-Israeli’ lobby if Syria got dragged in as well; Two birds with one stone, unfettered ‘regional superpower’, extended economic ‘sphere of influence’, etc, etc … Anyway … Folks sure have lots of escalating urban ambitions for this over-stretched countryside coalition. What do you think Rumsfeld is implying; that the US is going to do what exactly … send in the cooking platoon to patrol downtown Damascus from suicide bombers ? Nah, probably not. Far more likely he’s doing what he does, your regular ‘old Europe’ style belligerence soundbite to let the world know this administration is still up for the fight, and to fire a shot across the bows _just in case_. Also, as the British learned very early on in their empire, you make friends with your enemy’s enemies – Rumsfeld and, or course, the ‘pro-Israeli’ lobby knows better. Sensitive guy, sensitive policy and… ooooh, self-interest - but it’s not necessarily the self-interest of the United States we’re talking about, IMHO - probably worth rememebring that there is another primary but silent partner in this coalition . Quite how long Ariel Sharon can keep his mouth shut about Bush giving Blair what he needs (the “Middle East road map”) is another matter … Rumsfeld’s comments probably don’t cut it enough. ---
