Run Your Car on Water

Yeah, but you ain’t paying $4/gal for gas. And he’s not the only one looking at using aluminum to generate hydrogen. And aluminum production is going green.

As for factoring the energy used to make the lye, that’s included in the price of the lye (as well as the transportation costs of getting it to the store).

I’m English. $4/gal? It is to laugh.

I’m Norwegian. I’m at $2 per litre. That’s to say, around $8/gal with the weak dollar.

Well, so far it only runs downhill.

We passed $2 per litre a few weeks ago. At today’s exchange rate, we’re talking $8.18 per US gallon.

I saw an interesting take on the “run your car on water” thing, where the spark plugs were replaced with magnetrons from domestic microwave ovens that vaporized the water and pushed the piston down. Allegedly they could get the engine running. The energy to power the magnetrons… er… that came from energy generated by the car’s alternator… :smack:

To be fair, we’ve had at least one apparently sane Doper ask if an electric car’s range could be extended if it had dynamos in the wheels. :dubious: (From context, he didn’t mean regenerative braking.)
