You go girl! I read your post on C25K a while ago and it got me moving.
6 years ago I made the 5K2C, after years of running 5K every day except Sundays. I seriously thought I would never, ever be able to run again. I always had creaky knees, and I was 40 lb.s overweight. 20 lbs off and some weeks later I am running again, not 5K yet, but close.
Sure my old self would have me eating dust by the side of the road, but who cares? That bitch didn’t have a 12 lb. kid, and is almost a decade younger.
So, I raise this cup of green tea to you. And I will soon be chasing you.
Congratulations! You are a major inspiration, and you deserve every bit of praise in this thread. I’m really proud of you!
Way to go, the first one is definitely the hardest. Now you have a time to beat for your next race!
Oh, excellent idea…make room for all that ham and turkey and stuffing and pumpkin pie!
Isn’t Cervaise(?) or Scylla(?) a marathon runner? Someone here ran a 50-mile marathon, which just makes me want to go lie down on the couch with a cold cloth on my forehead.
Awesome! Congratulations! You are amazing!
So are you going to do anything special with your bib? I ran across a thread the other day on a running forum. Some people frame it, or write some stuff on the back (date/time/lesson learned, how they felt). Or they collect them all in a binder, hang them up etc. I never gave any type of thought about that before
Mine are all in a half finished scrapbook.
A friend of mine has hers papering her office.
It’s fun to look back and think “I remember that race. That was when …”
Congratulations!
Whoa, me neither. I love the idea!
I look back into my blog to see how a race was if I can’t remember much about it, but I like the doing something with the bib idea better. It’s so much better when you can hold a thing in your hands and flip through the progression.
I love running events and running in a group. One of the last ones, an Independence Day 5 miler that started late, people were a little cranky (a little…I’ve never seen anyone yell at the bib people before, especially for being “too slow.” Like yelling at them is going to speed them up?) and weird, so I look forward to Portland’s Run Like Hell 10k.
Hooray! My first 5K is this Saturday, and I’m already weirded out about how to think about it. Should I taper? But it’s only 3.1 miles, and I’m already running that 3 times a week. Do I skip one day this week? Should I go swimming this afternoon? Maybe go for walks instead? Or try a longer run say Wednesday so that the race will feel shorter? I’m all a-tizzy.
Many congratulations - that’s outstanding!
If you are interested in getting a fast time then yes, you should go a little lighter in training this week. Perhaps just don’t do the third run you normally do in the week, and/or take those runs slower than your normal pace. Mixing it up is always nice, so a swim would be a good option. I don’t think going for a run longer than your race is really going to be beneficial at this point.
Just concentrate on having a good time at your first race. Enjoy the experience.
Hey, thanks for the idea! I think I will collect mine in a binder. I like that idea a lot.
Thanks! I kind of “tapered” a little bit. Prior to the week of my 5K, I’d been doing two short runs of 2-2.5 miles per week, plus one long run of 3.5-4 miles. The week of the 5K (which was a Friday), I did one short run of 2 miles, skipped the other short run, and just did some walking instead. I think it worked out pretty well, because my time was really good for me. Good luck to you!
Awesome! Congratulations!!!
