We’re not all like this, people in towns where the general populous outnumbers the inbred population are generally reasonably minded thinkers. Please pray for me, I have to live here. ---

The worst part to me is that the same guy who’s doing his sculpture is doing one of another honoree, Dred Scot. You absolutely know that had Rush lived in the 1850s he’d have been one of the ones screaming about property rights and fully supporting the reenslavement of Scot. If Rush had a milligram of class and humility he’d step forward and ask them not to do this. With even a picogram he could at least offer to pay for the sculpture himself (he’s a lot more liquid than Missouri is). Of course we know he’ll do neither. My hope: the sculptor has a teenaged daughter on birth control and lets it influence his art. ---

Slight hijack: I’m from Alabama, where the state is of course always broke and the public schools are so underfunded school students are asked to bring napkins for the lunch room and toilet tissue. Nevertheless the state managed to cough up well over half a million dollars to replace one of their statues in the U.S. Capitol\* with a newly commissioned one of Helen Keller. Helen Keller’s story is definitely inspiring and she was a native born Alabamian. However, Keller left Alabama when she was 8 years old and only returned for visits thereafter, and while the statue is of the adorable little girl played by Patty Duke and her teacher and the “Wah-Wah! = D-A-S-A-N-I” moment at the pump they either forget or never knew that the little girl grew up to be a- literally- card carrying (Braille card no less) member of the Communist Party who publicly praised Lenin in many interviews. (She alsor routinely trashed Alabama in the press- for very good reason: the Jim Crow laws- BUT I’ll bet not one in ten of the legislators who voted for the statue knew that, and I can guarantee you they didn’t know she believed in redistribution of wealth even in her old age.) She also lived into her late 80s, meaning she spent only 1/10 of her life in Alabama and that’s counting her visits to relatives. There was talk of making the replacement statue Hank Williams, which really would have made more sense: he actually was born/came to fame in/died in Alabama and made a fantastic contribution to U.S. music. This was shot down because he was an alcoholic and generally kind of trashy. While that perhaps has some merit, I really don’t see the need to replace the statue at all at this particular time- wait til we don’t desperately need the six-figures for schools. \*Exact price varies, but the lowest estimate I’ve seen was around $600K and the highest, which included the transporting home of the other statue, was just under $1 million. The statue she replaced was of [Jabez Lamar Monroe Curry](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jabez_Lamar_Monroe_Curry), who in addition to having a name that sounds like it was from Lil Abner probably wouldn’t be recognized by 1 in 50 million people, myself most certainly included in the 50 million people. However, his statue’s been there for a century and I think it can wait until the economy is a lot better to be replaced by public monies. ---

I would really, really like to say that Tilley is socially tone deaf—well, he is, but I know too many folks from that area who would adamantly follow Rush into a cave on the New Madrid fault (and then claim that Jay Nixon was shifting the rocks). Rush’s hometown is not far from Tilley’s, so there’s some familial solidarity at play. ---

As long as they combine the Limbaugh statue with a urinal I have no objection. It could even become a major source of income attracting pee tourists from across the nation willing to pay upwards of twenty a whizz for a shot at him. I know I couldn’t resist. ---
